Artistic Mechanic and the Racing Dog

Tuesday: Sayonara (1957)        Lloyd is a major in the air force. He is reassigned to Kobe, Japan. Many men stationed there are marrying Japanese women. Lloyd doesn't believe it is right. Most agree with him. Then one of his friends, Joe, says he is going to marry a Japanese woman. Lloyd tries to talk him out of it. But Joe refuses to give in. Lloyd ends up going to the wedding. His opinion starts to change. Later he sees a performance at a theater and falls for the lead performer. She is stubborn and doesn't take an interest in him at first. Soon she can't resist him any longer. They have to hide their relationship. Tensions grow between Americans and the Japanese. Neither side wants biracial couples. I thought this movie was alright. Pretty provocative for the time. The actress who played Joe's wife was the first Asian woman to win an Oscar for her role in this movie. After taking a fall Mrs. Palfrey is rescued by a young writer named Ludo. They become friends. He becomes more of a grandson to her than her own grandson. They keep each other company and make each other's lives better. I thought this movie was alright. She works as a bartender and drives for a drive share app. When her car gets taken for failed payments she is left without much needed income. Maddie hears of a family looking for a young woman to date their young son who is leaving for college in the fall. In return they will give her a car. Maddie gets the job. She does her best to get the son, Percy, to like her. He is shy and awkward. Percy doesn't understand what she is trying to do. They don't get what they thought they would out of the situation. I thought this movie was alright. I wasn't planning to see it because it looked too raunchy from the trailer. But my sister saw it and told me it wasn't that bad. There are some raunchy jokes but they down play them. It's somewhere between a romantic comedy and a raunchy comedy. It not committing to one or the other is why it's only alright. Thursday: Return to Me (2000) ...

Diamond Smuggler and the Spy Novel

Tuesday: Mississippi Burning (1988)      This movie is inspired by true events. Two FBI agents are sent to a small town in Mississippi to investigate the disappearance of three civil rights activists. From the moment they get there they are met with hostility. No one is willing to talk to them. No black person will talk to them for fear of being beaten up or worse by the klan. No white person will talk because they are protecting what they think is right. The more they investigate the more they realize how corrupt this small town is. I thought this movie was alright. It was such a horrible time. It's crazy how much klan members were protected by every level of the local government. They could do whatever they wanted. Friday: Argylle (2024)      Elly writes novels about spies and global spy syndicates. She is very successful. While on a train to visit her parents she meets a real life spy named Aiden. He tells her that her books are actually predicting...
