Monday: The Pod Generation (2023)
This movie is set in the not too distant future. There is a new way for couples to have babies. Instead of the woman carrying the baby, the baby will grow and develop in an artificial womb or pod. Mothers don't have to have any of the physical side affects of pregnancy or have it impact their careers. Rachel and Alvy are a young married couple. Alvy is a horticulturist. He still believes in doing things naturally and preserving nature. He is against the pods. Rachel is desperate for a baby. With her job she gets a discount on the pods as part of a promotion. She puts their name on a list without telling Alvy. They get in. Alvy is upset at first but gives in to the idea of having a baby in a pod. As they go through the process they start to realize maybe something is not right. I thought this movie was alright.
Tuesday: Crossroads (2002)
Three childhood friends buried a time capsule of sorts and promised to meet at that spot the night of their high school graduation. As they grew up they grew apart. Lucy worked very hard at school and eventually became valedictorian. Kit became the most popular girl in school. Mimi was an outcast who got pregnant before graduation. Even though they were not longer friends they ended up meeting the night of graduation to dig up their time capsule. Mimi tells them she is going to LA to enter a singing competition. She invites them to come. The other two are reluctant at first but decide to go for their own reasons. Kit to visit her fiance at UCLA. Lucy to see the mother who abandoned her who now lives in Arizona. A friend of Mimi's, Ben, offers to drive them. They set out for California and face many obstacles along the way. This movie was ok. It's kinda a classic for girls of my generation, but I've never seen it. It's not very good. The big dramatic events fall flat.
Wednesday: Spellbound (1945)
Constance is a psychiatrist at a mental asylum. The head of the asylum is stepping down and retiring. His replacement, Dr. Edwardes is set to arrive any day. When he does he and Constance get along really well. Despite her own protests they fall in love very fast. But she can tell there is something not right about him. She discovers he has amnesia. He might be involved in a murder. Constance protects him and helps him to remember what happened. I thought this movie was good. It has a good twist. It's a Alfred Hitchcock film.
Friday: Mean Girls (2024)
This movie follows the same plot as the original. The only big difference being this is a musical. Also things have been updated to be more modern. It's more diverse and inclusive. It's a good movie. I enjoyed all the references to the original. The actress who plays Regina does a good job. She's a powerhouse singer.
Saturday: All of Us Strangers (2023)
Adam is a lonely screenwriter. He is having little luck with his next project. One day he decides to visit his childhood home. Adam lost both his parents when he was a kid. He never really dealt with it properly. When he arrives at his childhood home he finds his parents are living inside. They look exactly like they did before they died. Adam is able to visit with them and get to know them better. Back at his home he meets his neighbor Harry. After some awkward encounters they hit it off. Adam starts to be happy again with this new relationship and with being able to spend time with his parents. But it can only last for so long. This movie was alright. It does have a twist I wasn't expecting.
