Friday: Freakier Friday (2025)
It's been 22 years since the events of the first movie. Anna is a single mother to a teenage daughter, Harper. She struggles to balance her career and raising Harper. Harper gets into an altercation with a new girl, Lily, at school. Anna and Lily's dad, Eric, are called to the school. Anna and Eric hit it off right away. They eventually get engaged. Harper and Lily are not happy about it. Especially when it means they might have to move. Tess is doing her best to help. Then at Anna's bachelorette party Anna, Tess, and the two girls encounter a psychic who puts a spell on them. In the morning they wake up in different bodies. They have to figure out how to reverse the spell while living each others lives. I thought this movie was good. It was better than I thought it would be. I thought it would follow the trend of remakes and sequels. It would be focused on the younger characters with the originals just being there as side characters. But it wasn't. There was a focus on each character. Something for every generation. There were lots of millennial easter eggs. My favorite being a cameo by Elaine Hendrix, who was in The Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan (Anna).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Friday: My Mother's Wedding (2023)
Katherine, Victoria and Georgina are three sisters who have all come home for their mother's wedding to her third husband. Their mother was married to Katherine and Victoria's father until he died. Then she remarried his best friend and had Georgina. That husband also died. Now she has found a new man. The sisters are confronted by demons from their past, as well as their current struggles leading up to the wedding. They have to try and work through it all and be there for their mother. This movie was alright. It is set in England. Scarlet Johansson is Katherine. Her British accent was actually pretty good. But it just didn't connect for me. I kept expecting her to have her American accent.
Saturday: Night Always Comes (2025)
Lynette is struggling to get by while working two jobs. There is a chance she and her mom could buy their house. Which would make it easier to continue to care for her brother who has downs syndrome. They are close to having enough money when it falls through. Lynette has one night to get the money. She takes bigger and bigger risks to get money. It goes from bad to worse. Her own dark past playing a big part in the struggle. But she is desperate to get the money and secure their future. I thought this movie was alright. It's pretty dark. The main reason I watched it was because it was filmed in Portland. There was a scene in a thrift store on SE Division that I've been to several times. Which is cool. It's doing pretty well on Netflix right now, which is good.
