Friday: Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)
The Mandalorian (Mando) and Grogu are working for the New Republic. There are still many Imperial Warlords out there even if the Empire has fallen. Their new assignment is to find a warlord who is dangerous but not much is known about him. The Hutts have information on him. They will give it to Mando if he can rescue their nephew, Rotta. Rotta has been kidnapped and made to fight in nightly cage matches. Mando and Grogu set out to rescue him, but much more is at play than they knew. I thought this movie was good. It's a stand alone adventure. So if you haven't watched the tv series you'll be ok. Wish I had known that before I gave me parents (who went with me) a recap of all three seasons. Oh well. They still enjoyed it. Grogu is so cute. And that's all the matters.
Saturday: WarGames (1983)
David is an intelligent teen who is great with computers. While trying to get a free computer he stumbles on a site that he thinks is a game site. When really it's the military's computer system. What he thinks is a game almost starts World War III. After he finds out what he did David tries to fix it. Which proves difficult when he realizes the computer system thinks it's still playing a game and won't stop it's attack. This movie was good.
Sunday: The Bride (2026)
Frankenstein's monster, Frank, has lived on his own for a long time. Now in the 1930's he seeks out a scientist he believes can help him make him a bride. The scientist agrees. They use the body of a gangster's moll, Ida, who was recently killed. They bring her back to life, but she's not quite right in the head. After a run in with some men outside a bar, Frank and Ida go on the run. They have a crime filled Bonnie and Clyde journey, that doesn't end well. This movie was ok. There was this weird subplot of Ida being possessed by Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein). It was weird and didn't make sense. Most of the movie didn't really make sense. It was all over the place. I get what the director was going for. It just was a flop.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Friday: Pressure (2026)
This is based on a true story. It takes place in the days leading up to D-day in WWII. Eisenhower has brought in an expert meteorologist, James Stagg, to get the forecast for D-day. Which is only in three days time. Stagg does the best he can in such a short amount of time. He finds that the weather will be really bad on that day. He recommends that they don't go. But the troops need to go soon before their position is discovered. This could decide the war. The weather is never certain and Stagg has to do the best he can. I thought this movie was alright. Interesting I guess.
Sunday: In the Mood for Love (2000)
This is a Chinese film. Set in the 60s, this movie is about two couples who rent out rooms next to each other. Mrs. Chen is often left alone when her husband travels. Mr. Chow doesn't see much of his wife because they work different schedules. Mrs. Chen and Mr. Chow soon realize their spouses are having an affair. They bond over the betrayal. Despite some attraction they decide to remain friends. This movie is good. The acting is good. There is great use of color. The set design is well done.
