Saturday: Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025)
Zora is a covert operative. She gets hired by a man, Martin, who works for a pharmaceutical company that wants to use dinosaur DNA to develop groundbreaking medicine. He needs Zora to help put together a team to go to an abandoned research facility on an island. There they will get the DNA they need from the dinosaurs that live there. Along with people she's worked with before they also hire a scientist, Dr. Loomis. They head off to the island. Little do they know what really happened on that island. I thought this movie was alright. The writing wasn't very good. Also the acting wasn't the best.
Sunday: The Double Life of Veronique (1991)
This is a French and Polish film. Veronique is a French aspiring singer. While in town one day she sees a young woman getting on a bus who looks exactly like here. She feels a connection between them. Veronique lands an audition at a well known theater. It doesn't go like she planned. Weronika is a Polish music teacher who also has musical aspirations. She falls for a puppeteer who challenges her. This movie was alright. Interesting, but a little strange.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Friday: Superman (2025)
Superman comes under scrutiny when he gets involved with two foreign countries in conflict. The United States government, urged on my Lex Luthor, believes he could be a threat. Even his girlfriend, Lois, believes he wasn't in the right to do what he did. Even if he had the best intentions. Lex wants to destroy Superman, starting with his reputation. Soon Superman is made to look like a villain. He has to figure out how to clear his name. Also how to take down Lex and stop Lex's horrific plans. I thought this movie was really good. It was well done.
Sunday: Double Feature- Nosferatu (2024) and Nonnas (2025)
Nosferatu is set in the early 1800s in Germany. Ellen has unknowingly been under the thrall of a vampire her most of her life. It has caused her great distress. Until she married Thomas. They are very happy. Thomas is making his way up in a real estate firm. He is tasked with selling a local manor to a Count. The Count wants someone to bring the documents to him before he buys it. Thomas sets out to the Count's castle. Leaving behind a very distressed Ellen. Her past melancholy comes back and starts to cause problems. Thomas arrives at the Count's castle. It soon becomes clear that the Count is the vampire who enthralled Ellen and buying this manor is just the start of his horrible plans. This movie was ok. Pretty disturbing as I expected. The Count is supposed to look scary, but then has this silly mustache. The actress who plays Ellen is not a good actress. Not sure she was ready to lead a movie like this. I liked the 1922 version better.
Nonnas is based on a true story. Joe is an Italian American living in New York. He was raised on the cooking of his grandma and mom. After his mom dies he decides to open an Italian restaurant. His idea is that he will bring in Italian grandmas to cook their specialties like they would for their family. Joe struggles to open the restaurant. He has to find the money and renovate the restaurant while still working his day job. He finds four grandmas who are willing to cook for him. Joe is hopeful it will work. This movie was alright. It's a cute story, just not the best movie.
