Annoying Cousin and the Basketball Team

 Wednesday: The Road Dance (2021)

Kirsty is a young woman who lives on the coast of Scotland. She dreams of leaving and going to the United States. She wants more than just being a farmer. Murdo, her boyfriend, comes home after training to fight in WWI. They talk and make plans to get married and move to the U.S. Then Murdo and all the young men from the village are called to fight in the war. The night before they leave tragedy strikes and Kirsty is raped by an unknown man. She has no idea if the man who did it is now off to war. Later she finds out she is pregnant. Kirsty does her best to hide it and figure out what to do next. The war brings loss and pain, but they must go on. I thought this movie was alright.

Thursday: Timer (2009)

Set in the near future, people can get timers implanted. It will tell you when you will meet your soulmate. Oona is obsessed with finding her soulmate. Her timer is blank. She doesn't stay in a relationship if their timers don't sync. Then she meets a young man, Mikey, who flirts with her and likes her despite the age difference. After another frustrating date she decides to be with him even if it won't lead to anything. It changes how she thinks about the timers and whether she even wants one. This movie was ok.

Friday: A Real Pain (2024)

Two cousins, Benji and David, travel to Poland to go on a tour. Their grandma, who recently passed, was from there. They want to learn more about where she came from and what it was like for a Jew to live there during WWII. Benji and David were close growing up despite being different. Benji is very outgoing and empathetic. He can instantly make friends. He isn't afraid of saying what's on his mind. Also he be very difficult and irresponsible. He'll make it uncomfortable for everyone and then go back on what he said. Almost like he never said it. He's happy one minute and depressed the next. David is reserved and straight laced. He loves his cousin but also can't stand him most of the time. I thought this movie was alright. Good acting. There was just a lot of awkward moments.

Saturday: Rez Ball (2024)

Jimmy and his best friend, Nataanii, are on the basketball team of their high school on a reservation in New Mexico. Nataanii is the star player. But after his mom and little sister died he hasn't been the same. He can't seem to get over their deaths and is deeply depressed. Later at school Jimmy finds out Nataanii took his own life. The team is grieving. Yet they don't want to lose their momentum, so they keep going. Jimmy is the next best player. The coach makes him captain. He really struggles to be a leader and get his team to work together and win. Jimmy finds a way to bring them together and find what works for them. They start winning and make it to the championships. Even then it isn't without its challenges. This movie was good. This was the first movie for most of the actors who were the basketball players.

Sunday: Emilia Perez (2024)

This is a Mexican movie. A lawyer living in Mexico City, Rita, is contacted by the head of a cartel. He wants her to help him become is true self, Emilia. Rita finds the surgeon. She gets his wife and kids out of the country. And helps him fake his death. A few years later Rita runs into Emilia again. She wants Rita's help. She wants her wife and kids to come back and live with her. She pretends to be their aunt. Later after learning about how many missing people there are in Mexico, Emilia starts a foundation. This foundation will help to find as many missing people as they can. Despite trying to do good, her old way of life starts to draw her back in. I thought this movie was alright. It's a musical. Although not in the traditional sense. Most of the singing is more like talking. I can see why it's getting award attention. I just didn't like it that much. Also it's in both Spanish and English.

Travel Friends and the Logger's Life

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

Wolf and the Fake Fiancee

Friday: You. Me & Tuscany (2026)        Anna is a young woman who lost her passion for cooking after her mother passed. She's been housesitting, but it's not enough. One night she meets and Italian man, Matteo. They hit it off and he tells her about his empty villa in Italy that he never uses. Anna takes this as an invitation to use her pre-paid plane ticket and fly to Italy and stay at his empty villa. She gets caught by his family. They assume she is his fiancee and she goes along with it. Anna is introduced to the rest of the family, including Matteo's adopted brother Michael. Michael and Anna immediately hit it off, but can't do anything because she is engaged to his brother. When Matteo shows up things get even more complicated. I thought this movie was alright. It's cute and nice to have a new romantic comedy come out in theaters . It's just a little cheesy and over the top for me. Almost like a Hallmark movie or the like.  Saturday: The Bad Guys...
