Tuesday: The Beast with Five Fingers (1946)
Julie is a nurse for a one-handed pianist, Francis, who lives in a villa in Italy. He is depressed and very needy. The only one who makes him happy is Julie. Which is a relief for his secretary, Hilary, who has more time to do his research. One day a con man named Conrad comes to visit Francis. They have an unlikely friendship. Conrad and Julie discuss her leaving. Then at dinner Francis announces he is changing his will and wants everyone to witness it. Later Francis dies. After the funeral his distant family members as well as Julie, Hilary, and Conrad go to the reading of the will. His family is unhappy with the will and want to challenge it. Not long after, those staying in the villa are being murdered by the reanimated hand of Francis. There is more going on than they think. I thought this movie was alright. Decent visual effects for a movie made in the late 40s.
Friday: Abigail (2024)
A group of criminal are hired to kidnap the young daughter of a very rich man. They take her to a secluded mansion. Soon they realize something is not right with this job. They find out the girl's father is a very powerful and very dangerous criminal. Then it's revealed that the little girl is a vampire. They are there for her to hunt and kill. The group does all they can to fight and survive. This movie was alright. It was pretty campy.
Saturday: It Ends with Us (2024)
Lily had a traumatic childhood. Her only solace was the homeless boy who lived across the street, Atlas. They became friends and more. They were forced apart. Later when Lily is an adult she moves to Boston and opens her dream flower shop. She meets a handsome neurosurgeon, Ryle. Lily is resistant to his advances but eventually gives in. They fall in love. Lily runs into Atlas in Boston. When Ryle finds out he gets very jealous. Lily starts to see a different side of him. One that becomes dangerous to her on a daily basis. She has to find a way out. I thought this movie was alright. I didn't read the book. Some of the acting wasn't very good, mainly Blake Lively (Lily). She does pretty acting. Lots of posing and strutting. She can't always handle the more dramatic moments. There's a lot of drama surrounding the making of this movie and how it was promoted. All I'll say is I'm on the directors side. It's a messy situation.
Sunday: Carousel (1956)
Billy is in heaven. He's told that is daughter is in trouble. He can go back for one day to help. First he has to convince them to let him go. He tells the story. His wife Julie went to the fair with her friend Carrie in their New England coastal town. She becomes enchanted by the carousel barker, Billy. He is drawn to her as well. They both end up quitting their jobs so they can spend more time together. They quickly fall in love, although Billy is resistant to it. He never saw himself settling down, but with Julie he decides to give it a try. They get married even though they are both out of work. Julie's aunt takes them in. They are miserable. Especially Billy who can't find work. When he finds out she is pregnant he knows he needs money. He agrees to do a robbery with his friend. It ends up getting him killed. Billy is granted his day on earth to try to help his daughter. This movie was alright. It's a musical I haven't seen before.
