Tuesday I went with one of my best friends and her fiance to 1927 S'mores Company for dessert. It is on SW Alder. There is a public parking lot as well as some street parking. It is very small. It is decorated like a national park lodge. The walls are stone. There are lanterns, smokey bear stuffed animals, a canoe used as shelves, and more to make it feel like a lodge near campgrounds. The menu is in the shape of a national parks sign with the same font. They have unique s'mores that change each season. The marshmallows are different flavors like whiskey or espresso paired with other unique flavors. I ended up getting the s'mores parfait. Which had a graham cracker base, chocolate mousse, and vanilla marshmallow fluff on top. It was good, but small. My friend got the same as me. Her fiance ended up getting a normal s'mores. He said it was good. For a place specializing in unique s'mores I thought they would be bigger or something. But they're normal size and cost $6. So you could get a couple to make a full dessert but it would be expensive. It's a unique experience but not sure I would go back. The flavors are a little too weird for me. I don't want to pay that much for one normal s'mores.
Tuesday: The Chalk Garden (1964)
Miss Madrigal is a mysterious woman with a dark past. She is hired to be a governess for a spoiled and disturbed teen, Laurel, who has driven away many governesses. Laurel's mother abandoned her at her grandmother's. She is wild and unruly with strong desire to set the house on fire. The butler and her grandmother let her set other fires in the yard in the hopes of it deterring her from setting the house on fire. It is clear from the beginning that Miss Madrigal is different. She isn't fazed by Laurel. They both see changes they need to make to be better. I thought this movie was alright.

Wednesday: Musica (2024)
Rudy is a young man with synesthesia (he can hear music in everything) who has a love for music and puppetry. He is struggling to figure out what he is wants to do. He is Brazilian and his mom wants him to finish business school and marry a Brazilian woman. After breaking up with his white college girlfriend he meets a Brazilian woman named Isabella who works at the fish market. She sees him in a way no one else does. Rudy's struggle to find himself becomes complicated and messy. I thought this movie was ok.
Friday: To Die For (1995)
This is inspired by real events. Suzanne is a beautiful and naïve young woman who wants to be a famous TV news reporter. She gets married to a man named Larry. All she cares about is her career. She starts out as an assistant at a local news station. Soon Suzanne talks her way into being the weather girl. Suzanne also wants to do a special on teens. She convinces three to work with her and be interviewed. Larry is tired of her always working. He wants her to settle down and for them to have kids. At the same time she starts to have an affair with one of the teen boys who is part of her project. His devotion to her gives her an idea for how to keep advancing in her career with nothing holding her back. She convinces the teens to kill her husband for her, promising them love and fame. It all falls apart. I thought this movie was alright.
Saturday: Fly Me to the Moon (2024)
Kelly is a very successful marketing manager. One day she is approached by someone who works for the government. He wants her to help turn around NASA's image as they prepare to send a rocket to the moon. The night before she starts she has a chance encounter with Cole, the launch director. They hit it off. Then the next day he finds out what she is there to do. He is against it. Cole doesn't think they need the extra attention. They just need to focus on getting the rocket ready to fly to the moon. Kelly is also tasked with filming a fake moon landing in case something goes wrong with the real one. Despite their differences Kelly and Cole fall for each other. I thought this movie was good. Parts of it are true or based on true events. By chance we ended up seeing it on the 55th anniversary of the moon landing. There was also a full moon that night.
