Yesterday I had lunch at Miss Delta. It is on N Mississippi. It is a cool neighborhood that I hadn't been to before. There is neighborhood parking. It is a decent size place. Longer than it is wide. It has a diner/bar feel. There are vinyl booths and diner classic tables. There is a bar in the middle with plenty of stools. One wall is all brick. There is eclectic artwork hanging on the walls. A couple crystal chandeliers hang above the bar. It's warm, cozy, and welcoming. Especially on a cold snowy day like yesterday. I got fried chicken. It comes with corn bread and two sides. For my sides I got red beans and rice (with pulled pork), and mac and cheese. It served on a metal tray. It looks like a lot of meat. But the chicken was actually sliced pretty thin. There was a lot of breading. One of the two pieces I got was a wing. There wasn't much meat on it. I didn't even try to eat it. I knew it would be messy and with little reward. The meat was good, very juicy. The red beans and rice were good. The mac and cheese was one of the main reasons I came. I read an article saying it was the best in Portland. It was good, but spicy. It was all a little spicy. I know it's a southern place, but that was still a little disappointing. The corn bread was good but a little dry. The service was good. Overall it was a good experience. I would go back. Just maybe get something different next time. Also there is a cute vintage/ antique store next door called Flutter. It is a really nice store.
Monday: Sid and Nancy (1986)
This movie is based on a true story. It is about Sid Vicious, the lead bassist for the British punk rock band the Sex Pistols. The group is just starting to take off. Sid meets an American woman named Nancy. They hit it off. She introduces him to drugs. Soon the drugs become more important than the band. They start to spiral pretty fast. Ending in Nancy's death. I thought this movie was ok. I don't really get the whole punk scene. Or at least to the extreme that this group was. The movie is a little hard to watch.
Friday: The Fabelmans (2022)
Sammy is a young boy living with his parents and siblings on the East coast. From a young age he takes an interest in filmmaking. His family moves to Arizona and then California for his dad's job. One day he discovers a family secret that changes everything. It also affects his filmmaking. In the end it's what saves him. This is a really good movie. I know I didn't describe it very well. It's loosely based on Steven Spielberg's life. He also directed and cowrote the film.

Friday: Strange World (2022)
Searcher is the son of famous explorer Jaeger. Jaeger is determined to climb over the mountains surrounding their town to see what's out there. Searcher is less than enthusiastic about it. On an exploration he discovers a plant that could help their town. He wants to explore it properties. Jaeger goes on towards the mountains and isn't seen again. Years later Searcher is now as famous as his father. He found a way to harness the plant's properties for power. They were able to have electricity, flying ships, and more. Searcher hopes his son will take over the farm one day. Then he learns that something is killing the plants. They have to go in search of the source. Along the way they discover, wait for it....a strange world. I thought this movie was good. It has one of the first openly gay characters in a Disney/Pixar film which is pretty cool. Spoiler alert: The only thing I didn't really like is that it is clearly about global warming. I'm not saying that's not an important. It is. We need to do all we can to prevent it. I just don't necessarily want to watch a kids movie with that as the underlying story. It's a little depressing.
Saturday: Raymond & Ray (2022)
Raymond and Ray are half brothers. They discover their father has died. Both men have not seen him in a long time. Their childhood wasn't easy. They both were abused by their father in one form or another. Before his death their father planned his funeral. He wanted all his sons there. He wanted them to dig his grave and bury him. Raymond and Ray struggle with how they feel about their dad. As they prepare for the funeral more secrets come out. This movie was alright.
Sunday: One False Move (1992)
After committing several murders in Los Angeles a trio of criminals head to Arkansas. Two LA detectives know where they are headed. They plan to wait in Arkansas to catch them. They work with the naive local police chief. As time goes by it becomes more complicated and messy. I thought this movie was ok.
