On Thursday my parents and I had dinner at Firehouse. It is on NE Dekum. It's actually across the street from Campana which I have written about on here. There is neighborhood parking. As you can probably guess it is in an old firehouse. The outside is painted red and surrounded by different trees and plants. The garage door has been turned into a sliding glass wall that can be raised in the summer to allow an open air feature. The inside walls are brick with big black and white photos of firefighters. There are booths. They have a wood fire oven. There is a lot of wood paneling. It's a decent size place. I didn't go upstair but I'm guessing there is more seating. Also there is a bar at the back. It has been updated but still has a vintage feel to it. We sat outside under a tent with a string of lights around the edges. I think this was a COVID addition. It is in their stone courtyard. We got the fried cauliflower and green bean appetizers. They were both good. Most of their plates don't match. The cauliflower came on a china plate where as the green beans came in a ceramic bowl that looked handmade. I got the sausage pizza. They give you big scissors to cut it. Which I have never done before. It's a little weird to cut your pizza with scissors, but it works. The crust was very thin, at least in the center. It was good. Although I didn't like that the outer crust was burnt. My dad got the ribeye steak. I had a bite. It was good. It had a flavor that I recognized but couldn't quite place. Later we found out it was cooked over charcoal. Which must be what I was tasting. My mom got the trout. It was the whole fish served on a skillet on top of a wooden block. It was cooked in the same oven as my pizza. It was good. It came with roasted radishes. I've never had that before. I liked it. It's the only way I want to eat radishes from now on. For dessert I got the molasses blondie which was topped with sweat cream ice cream. It was so good. Really moist and rich. My dad got the pistachio ice cream that is covered in a chocolate shell and comes with cherries. It was good. My mom had them served the food as it was ready, tapas style. Which meant our food didn't sit under the light and over cook. But it also meant that my pizza came first and then they both had to wait awhile for their food. My mom seemed impatient even though it's what she asked for. I get not wanting it to be overcooked but I like everyone eating at the same time. Then there's not someone sitting their watching you eat while they grow more hungry. I liked this place a lot. I would go back.
