Prim had an early morning drop off vet appointment on my day off. I thought I'm up early anyways might as well go to breakfast. I went to Kimura Toast Bar. It is on N Williams and has neighborhood parking. It is a Japanese place. They have specialty toasts. It is a thick toast called Shokupan. They also serve coffee and matcha tea. Like most modern Portland restaurants it is industrial and simple. There are some Asian influences in the decor. There are toast and bread plushies scattered around. They were only seating outside on picnic tables. There were no heaters so it was a little cold. I guess they thought they wouldn't need them anymore because it's June. There were some cool houses to look at. I also saw that it is close to EaT: An Oyster Bar, which I have been to and written about on here. I got avocado toast with bacon butter and banana chocolate toast. This is the first time I've had avocado toast. It was alright. But the toast wasn't warm because there was so much avocado on it. The banana one was alright but it had this weird thing on it called chocolate dukkah. I didn't like it. The service was good. It's a fun experience but the food is only ok. Not sure I would go back.

Wednesday: Bundle of Joy (1956)
A young woman named Polly works at a department store. She is determined to be the best seller. But she is fired for selling too much. On her way to lunch she sees a baby on the doorstep of an orphanage. It is about to fall so she catches it. At that moment the door opens and a woman who works there comes out. She leads Polly in. They take her information. Polly then realizes they think it's her baby that she is giving up. She tells them it's not her baby, she has no job, and leaves. They call her store and she gets her job back. Later they drop the baby off. No one believes her that it's not her baby. So she has no choice but to take care of it. The bosses's son, Dan, is the one who rehired her. He takes an interest in her. They hit it off. People start to think he is the father. Which leads to more complications. I thought this movie was good. It stars Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. They were married at the time and Debbie was pregnant with her daughter Carrie.
Friday: In the Heights (2021)
Usnavi is a young man living in the Washington Heights neighborhood in New York. He runs the connivence store that his parents once owned. His cousin Sonny works with him. Usnavi dreams of moving back to the Dominican Republic and reopening his dad's bar. He has a crush on Vanessa who dreams of getting out of the heights and becoming a fashion designer. Usnavi lives with Abuela Claudia, who is a kind old woman who acts as abuela to everyone in the heights. Nina comes back from college to find that things have changed. People are being forced out of their businesses by raising costs. Her father runs a taxi service. He was forced to sell part of his space to pay for her school. Nina want to quit school. She doesn't fit in. But she doesn't want to let down the whole neighborhood who are so proud she made it out. Nina rekindles her romance with Benny. All the residents struggle but find hope in their dreams. This is such a good movie. It is a musical based on the Broadway musical created by Lin-Manuel Miranda. There is this great shot where you are outside looking through the window and see Usnavi looking out and singing, in the reflection you see people dancing. So you see both his face and the dancers. There is a song were the couple is dancing on the side of a building. It is so cool. The movie was directed by Jon Chu, who directed Crazy Rich Asians. It was cool that the cast was pretty much all Latinx.
Sunday: Double Feature- Lourdes (2009) and Porco Rosso (1992)
Lourdes is a French film. Christine is woman who is paralyzed. The only way she can travel is to go on pilgrimages to religious sites. The nuns take care of her. Her current trip is to Lourdes which is in the Pyrenees Mountains. It is said that the water can heal people. One man who was paralyzed like her was able to walk again, but then it went away. Christine doesn't hope for much. She does have a crush on one of the guards that travel with them. I thought this movie was ok.
Porco Rosso is about a former WWI pilot who was cursed to be a anthropomorphic pig. Where he lives in the Mediterranean most people get around on sea planes. Porco works as a bounty hunter. He keeps in contact with Gina. She is a nightclub singer who was married to his friend who died in the war. Girls are kidnapped from a cruise ship by pirates. Porco saves them. The pirates have it in for him. They want him dead. Porco's plane takes a beating. He has so go to Milan to get it fixed. Which is risky because the Italian government have a warrant for his arrest. His repair guy has hired his niece to be the new engineer. Porco is hesitant at first about having her work on his plane. But he gives in. Soon he learns the government is coming for him so he has to flee knowing that the pirates wait for him at home. This is another Studio Ghibli film. I liked it a lot.
