Monday: Madame X (1966)

She doesn't really fit into his world as much as she tries. She tries to stick with it. They have a son. Still Holly is lonely. She has an affair. Things go very wrong and her lover ends up dead. It could be tied back to her and damage her husband's career. So she is convinced to fake her own death. She flees to Europe. As the years pass Holly becomes depressed and an alcoholic. She makes some bad choices that end with her being charged with murder. She won't tell them her real name so they call her Madame X. Back in the states a young lawyer is assigned to represent her. Who turns out to be her son. He is determined to win her case. I thought this movie was alright.
Tuesday: The Thomas Crown Affair (1968)
Thomas is a bank executive. He is wealthy, adventurous, and cunning. He organizes a bank heist. Thomas plans it so no one knows each other. They don't even know him. Just their part. He pulls it off and gets away with millions. Vicki is an insurance investigator for the bank. She figures out that Thomas is behind it. She starts a romantic relationship with him to get close to him and figure out how he did it. Thomas knows what she is doing but he goes along with it revealing very little. Vicki remains determined to prove it was him. This is a good movie.
Friday: Tampopo (1985)
This is a Japanese film. Goro is a truck driver. One night he stops a ramen shop. The owner is a widow named Tampopo. She has a young son. Goro can tell as soon as he walks in that the ramen is going to be bad. Some other customers are harassing Tampopo. He stands up for her. The men fight, and Goro wins but is injured. After she takes care of him Goro decides to help her turn the shop around. He teaches her about everything there is to know about running a ramen shop. From how to observe the customers to how to make the perfect broth. He brings in many other teachers to help her. Goro does his best to resist falling for Tampopo as they get closer to making the perfect ramen shop. There are also some scenes about other characters and their relationships with food. I thought this was a good movie. The other scenes that aren't about Goro can be really weird. Like an old woman sneaking around a grocery store squishing random foods and then just leaving them when the shop owner comes by. It is also a modern western. With the outcast defending the window and bring others to help her. There is even a show down with a villain. This movie will make you hungry and crave ramen.
Saturday: The Little Things (2021)
Joe is a deputy sheriff for a small town in California. He is sent to Los Angeles to pick up some evidence. We find out that he used to be a big shot detective in LA. But something went wrong that made him leave. While there he overhears a press conference run by the detective who replaced him, Jim. Jim is trying to find a serial killer who is killing young women. Joe connects these murders to a series of murders he was investigating before he left. Jim ends up inviting Joe to the crime scene of the most recent victim. He wants to see if Joe might be able to see something he can't. Joe stays in LA and starts working the case. He finds a suspect but can't find any proof. Jim works with him to solve the case. I thought this movie was good. A thriller like this hasn't been made since the 90s (also helps that it is set in the 90s). The suspect is super creepy. I thought he might give me nightmares. Like Steve Carrell in Foxcatcher. Although you don't see him doing anything, you just know something is not right with this man.
