Green Chiles and the Civil Rights Leader

I went to the first restaurant outside of Oregon on my list with my mom. It has been on my list for awhile. It is the Pink Adobe in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Like most restaurants in New Mexico it was Mexican restaurant, with New Mexican dishes. We sat outside in the courtyard area. The back of it is surrounded by an adobe wall with wooden windows and a wooden door in it. There are hanging lights. The inside of the restaurant feels like an old adobe home. Most of the tables are by an adobe wall with a seat carved out of it. The adobe is painted with different patterns here and there. The ceiling is low. The Dragon Room bar is cool too. There are also hanging lights in there. We shared a Trio appetizer. It is tortilla chips with salsa, guacamole, and chile con queso. The queso was really good. Almost all the entrees have green chiles on them, even the burger. I got Steak and Enchiladas. It was good. A little spicy for me, but when I scrapped off the green chiles on the steak it wasn't too bad. The service was a little slow. Overall it was a fun experience. I would go back next time I go to New Mexico.

Wednesday: Malcolm X (1992)
Malcolm had a hard life from the beginning. His father was killed by the KKK. Even though he was able to go to a good school all his teachers told him he needed to have more reasonable goals. He couldn't be a lawyer but a carpenter would be a good fit. In his early 20s he gets involved with a gang. After a heist gone wrong he ends up in prison. In prison he is introduced to Islam. It brings him comfort and purpose. When he gets out of prison he becomes a minister. Malcolm has a way with words. His teachings lean towards civil rights. He becomes a civil rights leader and gains many followers. Some of his beliefs are extreme. He becomes divided from his other brothers of Islam. Even though he grows and becomes better it is not enough to stop what is coming for him. I thought this movie was good. Denzel Washington did a great job. I remember learning a little about Malcolm X in school, but didn't remember much about him. It was interesting to learn more about his life.

Sunday: Double Feature- Artemis Fowl (2020) and Neon Demon (2016)
Artemis Fowl is based on the first book in a series. It is about a smart and wealthy boy raised by his father in Ireland. His father teaches him about fairies and other creatures. On a business trip his father disappears. Artemis finds out that his father is suspected of being a thief. Then his bodyguard shows him secret rooms in his house. His father was a thief but he was stealing items to protect the fairies. Artemis finds out they are real. Soon after he goes missing Artemis receives a call from a person saying they are holding his father hostage. This person wants an artifact that his father stole. Artemis can't find it but believes a fairy could help him. So he comes up with a plan to kidnap one. Holly is a leprechaun cop living in the fairy world. Her deceased father was believed to have stolen the artifact. She wants to clear his name. She ends up falling into Artemis's trap.  But they decided to work together with a dwarf to find the artifact and save both worlds. This movie was bad. The acting and the writing were not good. Josh Gad was the dwarf and he tried doing this low growly voice and it just didn't work. It was also weird how they did the animation for his digging. Judi Dench was the police chief. I think at this point she will just do any movie. I don't think she cares what it is.
Neon Demon is about a teenage girl named Jesse. Jesse moved to LA to become a model. Although she is inexperienced she starts booking jobs quickly. She has that thing. Some people try to take advantage of her innocence. Jesse meets a make up artist named Ruby. Ruby introduces her to Gigi and Sarah, who are also models. Gigi and Sarah become instantly jealous. There work hard to maintain their bodies and be successful models. And here comes this young girl who doesn't have to do anything but be pretty and has instant success. The movie takes a dark turn when Jesse starts to have visions. Then the other models come after her. This movie was ok. It is really weird. I wouldn't recommend it. Almost the whole movie is just a series of modeling shots. Jesse passes out or listens to what is happening in the other room with her head pressed against the wall, and it looks like she is posing. It could be a photo for a magazine. The movie reminded me of Suspiria. These models will do anything to be successful just like the dancers in that movie. There is something not quite right going on. And creepy music.

Travel Friends and the Logger's Life

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

Wolf and the Fake Fiancee

Friday: You. Me & Tuscany (2026)        Anna is a young woman who lost her passion for cooking after her mother passed. She's been housesitting, but it's not enough. One night she meets and Italian man, Matteo. They hit it off and he tells her about his empty villa in Italy that he never uses. Anna takes this as an invitation to use her pre-paid plane ticket and fly to Italy and stay at his empty villa. She gets caught by his family. They assume she is his fiancee and she goes along with it. Anna is introduced to the rest of the family, including Matteo's adopted brother Michael. Michael and Anna immediately hit it off, but can't do anything because she is engaged to his brother. When Matteo shows up things get even more complicated. I thought this movie was alright. It's cute and nice to have a new romantic comedy come out in theaters . It's just a little cheesy and over the top for me. Almost like a Hallmark movie or the like.  Saturday: The Bad Guys...
