Pita Bread Overload and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn

I had dinner at the Mediterranean Exploration Company. It is on NW 13th. I ended up parking at the garage under Whole Foods. It is close by and all that. But I always seems to have bad experiences when I park there. This time was due to some unclear after hour signage. Don't say Both Lanes Open when they are not. Like most places on 13th this place was clearly an old loading dock of some kind. It is a small restaurant. The ceiling is low with exposed pipes painted white. The decor is minimalist. There are Industrial Edison light bulbs hanging from the ceiling. There is an open kitchen. There are tables as well as bar and counter seating. One full wall is half windows. You can tell they are the same factory windows. Due to it's size it is very loud in there. When I got there it was very busy. It was a long wait for a table. The hostess suggested I try to get a seat at the bar. It was full. I waited and kept checking but no seat opened up. I decided to just put my name down. But the hostess said she was working on something for me. A couple minutes later she had a seat for me at the counter. She was so nice to do that for me. I overheard someone talking about how good the pita bread was. Also I noticed that most items were small plates. So I thought I would get an appetizer and an entree. I got Hummus Abu Hassan. It was a lot more hummus than I thought it would be. It had chickpeas, olive oil, and various spices on it. There was a big piece of pita bread that came with it. It was good, but a lot. Pita and hummus are very filling. Then my entree came. I got the Adana Lamb Kebab. Clearly I had misread the menu because it came on top of pita bread that took up most of the plate. There was a yogurt sauce, cucumber, tomato, and pickled onions. There was only one kebab. It was maybe 6 bites worth. It was mostly just pita. The meat was good. I got the baklava trio dessert to go. It was apricot, pistachio/walnut, and chocolate. The apricot was ok. The chocolate was good but a little weird. The classic pistachio was the best. Overall the food was good, but expensive for small portions. I think it is more of a place to go with multiple people. That way you can all share. I'm not sure if I would go back.

Monday: Village of Daughters (1962)
The mayor of a Italian Village gets a letter from a rich man with ties to the village. He wants the mayor to pick a wife for him. The village has fallen on hard times after the quarry closed. All the young men have left. So only the daughters remain. The mayor himself has a daughter. He was going to choose her to be the wife. But other villagers find out. They want their daughters to have a chance too. The local priest decides that the next stranger to come there will be the one to decide. Herbert is a traveling salesman. He ends up in the village by mistake. They make him decide who the wife will be. While he decides he falls for the independent daughter of the quarry owner. This movie was ok.

Tuesday: Crossing Delancey (1988)
Isabelle is a single woman living and working in New York City. She loves her job at an independent bookstore. Isabelle has a crush on a famous author who hangs around the store. On weekends she often visits her Jewish grandma. Her grandma is worried about her being single. She sets her up with the local matchmaker. The matchmaker finds her a match right away. Sam is a nice man who owns a pickle factory. Isabelle is not interested. She has her mind set on the author. Every time she thinks the author is into her he does something to show her he's not. So she goes to Sam, but then the author will draw her back in. She has to make a choice. I thought this movie was ok. It was an interesting idea to have a Jewish matchmaker in modern times.

Wednesday: Harry and Tonto (1974)
Harry is a retired widower living in a small New York apartment with his cat Tonto. He does everything with Tonto. His building is being torn down. He is forced to move out. Harry stays with his son for a while but it isn't really working. He decides to go visit his daughter in Chicago. After several travel mishaps due to his quirkiness and stubbornness he ends up driving. He picks up a teenage hitchhiker who he quickly befriends. They don't take a direct root to Chicago. Once there is doesn't work either. So Harry is off with his teenage friend to visit his other son on the West Coast. This a great road trip movie. I liked it.

Friday: Birds of Prey (2020)
Harley and the Joker have broken up. Now that she is no longer under his protection all her enemies come for her. One of them being Roman Sionis. He is on the search for a diamond. Roman knows that a girl named Cassandra Cain stole it. Harley overhears this and makes a deal to get the diamond for him. She goes out in search of the girl. There is a mysterious cross bow killer taking out mob members. A female cop is working to take down Roman. His club singer turned driver is unsure of what she has gotten herself into. They end up all having to work together to save the girl. I thought this movie was good. Better than Suicide Squad. That's mostly because Cara Delevingne wasn't in it. She is a bad actress. Harley Quinn was the best part of that movie anyways. So to make a whole movie just about her was a good idea. It is a lot of fun.

Saturday: Troop Zero (2019)
Christmas is a little girl obsessed with space. She only has one friend. He is the only gay boy at their school. They are outcasts and often bullied. Christmas hears that NASA wants to have one of the  local Birdie Scouts troops record on the Golden Record. The Golden Record will be sent into space. And if there are aliens they will hear it and know a little about Earth. The NASA representative will record the troop that wins the Jamboree. Christmas wants to be on that tape. She is determined to form a troop. Having few friends she has a hard time finding other troop members. She ends up with other outcasts. Her gay guy friend, a very religious little girl, and the two school bullies. Her father's assistant reluctantly agrees to be their troop leader. They struggle to get their patches and to work together as a troop. This is a cute movie. I mostly watched it because Viola Davis is in it. She is an amazing actress.
