The restaurant we went to this week is Chameleon. It is on NE 40th Ave. The sign outside is cool, antique looking with a chameleon. It is a little fancier than I was expecting. The prices are kind of high. Although the decor doesn't quite match that. It seems a little run down. We sat in the sun room which was nice. The outdoor patio area is beautiful. There are hanging lanterns and streamers. It is surrounded by different kinds of flowers. The food is Asian/European fusion. There is a spring roll appetizers as well as steak and lamb on the menu. We got the grilled dates appetizer. It is wrapped in bacon. It was so good. But it is one per person so you have to tell them if you want more than one each. I got rice fettuccine. There are bright orange flower petals on top as the garnish. Which was something I hadn't seen before. The noodles were made of rice. For some reason I was thinking it was the sauce on actual rice. It was good either way. It also had salmon and julienned snow peas. My sister got the rigatoni which was also good. The service was good. I would go back. My sister would like me to add that we went to Wailua Shave Ice for dessert. It was good. Although I will say the service was only ok. As soon as we paid the server started texting on her phone. Also if you don't like coconut or citrus like me there aren't that many options.
Tuesday: Frost/Nixon (2008)
This is about the famous interview the journalist David Frost did with Richard Nixon. It starts with the aftermath of Watergate. You see Nixon resign. Some years later we are introduced to David who is a British talk show host who has shows in Australia and England. He gets the idea to do a series of interviews with Nixon. His producer thinks it is a good idea. They get Nixon to agree. But David has a hard time convincing any network to take it on. He pays for a lot of it himself. Many doubt if he can pull it off. He struggles with Nixon who is charismatic and good at storytelling. It almost becomes a fight between them to get what they want from the interviews. I liked this movie alright. It was very well acted. It makes you sympathize with a horrible man.
Wednesday: The Fountain (2006)
The film spans many different time periods. It shows the past with a conquistador traveling to South America on a mission for his queen. He is looking for the tree of life that will help her live forever. In modern day a scientist husband is trying to save his wife who has a brain tumor. He hopes to discover a way to get rid of the tumor. In the future a monk like man in traveling through space on an island with a large tree that is all incased in a large bubble. The same two actors play all the lead characters. All the parts are connected. The story about the conquistador is actually part of the book the wife is writing. The monk in the future is reliving all the events of the modern day man, his past self. The man in all the stories is trying to find immortality to save the woman he loves. This movie is ok. It is a little confusing. It just didn't seem to work like they wanted it to.
Friday: Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood (2019)
This is Quentin Tarantino's latest film. It is set in Hollywood in 1969. Rick is a has-been actor who only gets cast as the villain on one episode jobs. His stunt double Cliff is also struggling to find work. We also seen Sharon Tate, who happens to live next door to Rick. This is also the same time when the Charles Manson and his cult are very active. Cliff is almost recruited by a young hippie girl. Charles goes to Sharon's house looking for someone who used to live there. Like Tarantino's other historical satire films things don't go quite as you would expect. I liked this movie. For a Tarantino film it actually wasn't that gory. There was only one gory scene. There were some cool shots when we see Rick filming a show. It appears like we are justing watching the finished scene. You can't see any camera men or the director. Then Rick messes up his line. You hear the script supervisor and director talking off screen. Then the camera actually resets. You can see it going back to where it was at the beginning of the take. It was a cool move.
