Postman and the Serial Killer

Monday: The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)
A drifter named Frank ends up getting a job at a restaurant/ gas station. He gets to know the owner Nick and his young wife Cora. Cora is the classic femme fatale in this film noir movie. She is mysterious and dangerous. She is unhappy in her marriage. She and Frank soon fall in love. Cora knows Nick will never divorce her. She also wants the restaurant for herself. They grow desperate and decide to kill Nick and make it look like an accident. Things do not go as planned. This is a good movie. If your wanting to watch a classic film noir this is it.

Tuesday: The Gold Rush (1925)
This is a classic Charlie Chaplin film. His character the Tramp has gone to Alaska to mine gold. He is not prepared for the cold or for surviving in the mountains. He ends up stuck in a cabin with two other gold miners during a long storm. They soon run out of food. The Tramp resorts to eating candles and even one of his shoes. When the storm passes he heads to town. There he meets Georgia. He falls for her. She doesn't feel the same way. But she leads him on out of boredom. It does have a good ending for both of them. I liked this movie. Although it was a little long for a silent film.

Thursday: Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019)
Liz is a young single mother trying to support her daughter. She meets a handsome young man named Ted Bundy. They fall in love quickly. They are happy. Then Liz finds out Ted was arrested on his recent trip. Soon other states come after him with different charges. They charge him with abducting women and murder. More and more of his crimes come to light. Liz doesn't believe any of it at first. Ted claims to be innocent. But as it goes on Liz can't ignore it. She becomes depressed. Ted has many trials where he continues to say his is innocent. He escapes many times. This is based on a true story so it doesn't spoil much to say he ends up with many years in prison and then is executed. Only near the end of his life does he start to admit what he did in little bits and pieces. I liked the movie ok. It was interesting that it was all from Liz's perspective. There wasn't a lot blood and gore. It makes it hard for you to believe that he could do all these things. Zac Efron did fine. But his character was still handsome and charming. I would like to see him in role where he is not handsome or charming. See if he can actually handle a dramatic role just on his acting skills alone.

Friday: Pokemon Detective Pikachu (2019)
Tim lives in the suburbs. He has a boring life. Unlike most people he doesn't have his own Pokemon. Then he learns that his estranged detective father has died. Tim goes to the city to pack up his father's things. There he meets his dad's Pokemon partner Pikachu. He is able to understand what Pikachu is saying and Pikachu can understand him. No one else can understand Pikachu. Tim learns that Pikachu and his dad were working on a case. Something happened that lead to his father dying and Pikachu losing his memory. They must work together to figure out what happened. This is a cute movie. You have to wait a little for Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu to come into the movie for the movie to start to be good. The Pokemon are really cute. Other than that the movie is only ok.

Travel Friends and the Logger's Life

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

Wolf and the Fake Fiancee

Friday: You. Me & Tuscany (2026)        Anna is a young woman who lost her passion for cooking after her mother passed. She's been housesitting, but it's not enough. One night she meets and Italian man, Matteo. They hit it off and he tells her about his empty villa in Italy that he never uses. Anna takes this as an invitation to use her pre-paid plane ticket and fly to Italy and stay at his empty villa. She gets caught by his family. They assume she is his fiancee and she goes along with it. Anna is introduced to the rest of the family, including Matteo's adopted brother Michael. Michael and Anna immediately hit it off, but can't do anything because she is engaged to his brother. When Matteo shows up things get even more complicated. I thought this movie was alright. It's cute and nice to have a new romantic comedy come out in theaters . It's just a little cheesy and over the top for me. Almost like a Hallmark movie or the like.  Saturday: The Bad Guys...
