We were finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. This time we went to Bollywood Theater at their NE Alberta location. I have not been to NE Alberta and I didn't realize how many restaurants there are. Bollywood Theater is a order then find your table kind of restaurant. Which worked when we went, but I have gone to others like that were it's so busy that you hope you get a table before your food comes out. Or your left awkwardly standing and eating your food. This place was heavily decorated, which I liked a lot. There was something new to look at everywhere you turned. Lots of hanging lights and Indian decorations. They also had a Bollywood movie playing on a big screen. There was also a very modern warehouse feel to it. The service was ok. The guy taking orders was kind of rude. But the women bringing the food to our table were a bit nicer. I got Lamb Samosas and Kati Rolls. The samosas were pretty spicy. The kati roll wasn't spicy but other than a few pieces of chicken it was mostly pickled onions. My sister got a Saag Paneer. She didn't really like it. She did really enjoy the crackers they sold. It was a fun experience. I don't know that I would go there again. I think most Indian food is too spicy for me. Luckily my next restaurant has non-spicy food. I did really like the decorations. I like places that decorate like that. Por Que No is like that too.
Tuesday: Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018)
This is the last oscar nominated movie that I had to see. It is about a real life struggling author named Lee Israel. She was mostly known for writing biographies. But she had fallen on hard times. So she sold a letter from Fanny Brice that she had. It sold for a lot of money. She discovered more in a library book, which also sold decently. The buyer said they would sell for more if the content was more exciting. So Lee started forging letters written by prominent authors and selling them. She was making a lot of money. She also made a friend who helped her out. It wasn't long before she got caught. I liked this movie. I thought Melissa McCarthy did a really good job. I don't usually like her movies because they are crude comedies. She needs to do more movies like this. Or better comedy like when she was on Gilmore Girls.
Wednesday: The Toast of New Orleans (1950)
A opera diva visits the bayou. There she and her manager discover a simple fisherman who has an amazing voice. The manager offers him training to be a opera singer in New Orleans. He refuses. Then his fishing boat is wrecked in a storm. He decides to go to New Orleans just to make enough money as an opera singer to buy a new boat. Although his voice is good he needs a lot of work. His social graces need a lot of work too. The fisherman and the diva fall in love. But he must find the balance between being himself and being a society gentlemen. I liked this movie ok. I'm not a big fan of opera.
Friday: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)
Hiccup and Toothless are back for their final adventure. There are other viking who want to kidnap all the dragons. Hiccup, as the chief, must work to protect the dragons. Toothless meets a light fury and falls in love. They discover a hidden dragon world. It would be the perfect place to hide all the dragons and protect them This will mean that Hiccup and and Toothless will have to say good bye. It is sad to see. My sister cried her eyes out. I really like this movie. Toothless is so cute. The animation is amazing. It has changed and improved so much since the first movie.
Sunday: Dream Wife (1953)
Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr star in this movie. Cary plays a man named Clem who goes to the middle east to make a deal with the king to buy oil from them. There he meets a princess who has been raised to be a good wife and serve her husband. Clem returns home to his fiancé Effie (Deborah Kerr) who is a modern American woman who values her independence and is career focused. She works for the same government agency that he does and is working to make the deal with the king. He realizes that she will never be the stay at home wife who only cares about making him happy. So they brake of the engagement. He wants the perfect wife who only lives to serve him. He remembers the princess he met. Clem proposes to her. It comes to the agencies attention. Both parties accept but the agency must monitor the courtship to make sure nothing goes wrong and they still get their deal. Effie is assigned to make everything go smoothly. Clem soon realizes that having someone who's only desire is to serve him is not what he thought it would be. I liked the movie okay. I don't know how much I like the message of the dream wife being a woman who just stays home and raises the kids and lives to take care of her husband. I know it was the 50s but I still don't like it. And that was the premise for the whole movie. Although I did have to agree with some of the things. Like he had his arms full and he was still expected to open the door for a woman and take off his hat in the elevator. The woman could have opened the door for him. And the hat was no big deal. I know it was mostly for comedic effect but I could still see it happening back then. Also the movie started with the king talking in Arabic to the audience. The subtitles went so fast at the bottom of the screen you could barely keep up.
