Mr. Peabody and the Guildford Four

Wednesday: Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid (1948)       While recovering from a bad flu, Arthur Peabody and his wife decide to take a winter vacation in the Caribbean. They stay in a beautiful house right on the water. Arthur is starting to feel better. Then after a party his wife reminds him he is almost fifty. This makes him depressed. Soon after he takes a boat to a nearby island where he hears singing. He can't find the source of the singing and decides to go fishing. He catches a mermaid. Arthur takes her back to the house. His wife doesn't believe him. He ends up putting the mermaid in their very large pond. He falls in love with her. Everyone thinks he is crazy. It complicates everything. I thought this movie was alright.  Saturday: French Girl (2024)        Gordon is a high school teacher who is dating a talented chef named Sophie. Curly and the Nuclear Power Plant

Saturday: Silkwood (1983)      This is based on a true story. Karen Silkwood worked at a nuclear power plant in Oklahoma. After working there for a couple of years she starts to notice things. The plant is not following safe practices. Putting the workers in danger. They are not protected from contamination. If they are contaminated they are told they are fine. That's it's an acceptable level of radiation. When in fact they are all likely to get cancer. Even Karen gets contaminated. She starts to work with the union to try and get the plant to change its practices. People working at the plant are not happy with her. Fearing she will get the plant shut down. The plant doesn't want to lose money and the workers don't want to lose their jobs. Karen becomes a target. This movie is good. I understand people not wanting to lose their jobs. But I don't get how they could be mad at her for trying to keep them safe. She was trying to make it better for them so they wouldn...

Ghost Father and the Murderous Hand

Tuesday: The Beast with Five Fingers (1946)       Julie is a nurse for a one-handed pianist, Francis, who lives in a villa in Italy. He is depressed and very needy. The only one who makes him happy is Julie. Which is a relief for his secretary, Hilary, who has more time to do his research. One day a con man named Conrad comes to visit Francis. They have an unlikely friendship. Conrad and Julie discuss her leaving. Then at dinner Francis announces he is changing his will and wants everyone to witness it. Later Francis dies. After the funeral his distant family members as well as Julie, Hilary, and Conrad go to the reading of the will. His family is unhappy with the will and want to challenge it. Not long after, those staying in the villa are being murdered by the reanimated hand of Francis. There is more going on than they think. I thought this movie was alright. Decent visual effects for a movie made in the late 40s. Friday: Abigail (2024)       A gro...

While finding a new topic she makes friends with another student, Rick. She helps him to get a date to the dance. The closer they get to the dance the more Terry realizes she has feelings for him.
