Ice Dancer and the Dirt Farmer

 Sunday: The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933)         This is a German film. Inspector Lohman investigates several crimes that lead back to a mental institution. He learns about a patient, Dr. Mabuse. Mabuse was a criminal mastermind who one day became almost comatose. He would just sit in his bed. Then he started to make writing gestures. They gave him paper and a pencil. Scribbles became words. Those words started to make some sense. Lohman realizes that somehow Mabuse is behind these crimes. He believes hypnotism might be involved somehow. Lohman has to figure out how this insane man is getting people do commit crimes from his locked room. I thought this movie was alright.  Sunday: The Weekend Away (2022)          Beth flies to Croatia to spend the weekend with her college friend Kate. Beth has recently had a baby and is unhappy in her marriage. She is eager for a weekend away. Kate seems determined to relive their partying past. Beth goes along with it, even agreeing to flirt  and spend time with two men. The next day Beth wakes up and Kate is missing. Beth searches for her. When Kate's body is found she somehow becomes a suspect in Kate's murder. Beth has to prove her innocence and find the real killer. I thought this movie was alright.  Sunday: My Life as a Dog (1985)         This is a Swedish film. Ingemar is a young boy growing up with his older brother and single mother in the 50s. His mother becomes very ill. His crazy antics cause his mother even more stress. So he is sent to spend the summer with his aunt and uncle. They work in a glass blowing factory. Ingemar meets some v strange people. A boy with green hair, a man constantly fixing his roof, a girl pretending to be a boy to play soccer, and more. He also learns about women. Ingemar grows up, but still struggles at home. I thought this movie was good. Monday: Stealing Home (1988)        Billy grew up loving baseball. He had a babysitter, Katie, who was wild but also wise and supportive. They became good friends. Before his senior year of high school  tragedy strikes. Billy loses his love of baseball. Years later as an adult he is brought home after Katie dies and he is given her ashes.  I didn't post last week because I had only watched two new movies that week. So this is last week and this week. Sunday: Tokyo Twilight (1957)        This is a Japanese film. Shukichi is a banker. He had to raise his daughters by himself after his wife abandoned them. Shukichi has done the best he can. His daughters are grown. They are both struggling. Takako fled from her abusive husband with her child back to her father's house. Akiko, the youngest, is a student. She is out late every night and hangs out with the wrong crowd. Then the two women discover their mother is back in town. They both have a hard time with this news. I thought this movie was alright. Tuesday: Malaya (1949)        During WWII there is a rubber shortage. After returning from Asia a reporter named John tells government officials that he knows where they can get rubber.
