Lamb Samosas and the Baby Dragons

We were finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. This time we went to Bollywood Theater at their NE Alberta location. I have not been to NE Alberta and I didn't realize how many restaurants there are. Bollywood Theater is a order then find your table kind of restaurant. Which worked when we went, but I have gone to others like that were it's so busy that you hope you get a table before your food comes out. Or your left awkwardly standing and eating your food. This place was heavily decorated, which I liked a lot. There was something new to look at everywhere you turned. Lots of hanging lights and Indian decorations. They also had a Bollywood movie playing on a big screen. There was also a very modern warehouse feel to it. The service was ok. The guy taking orders was kind of rude. But the women bringing the food to our table were a bit nicer. I got Lamb Samosas and Kati Rolls. The samosas were pretty spicy. The kati roll wasn't spicy but other than a few pieces...

Cyborg Girl and the Rise of Zorro

Wednesday: At Eternity's Gate (2018)         This movie is about Vincent van Gogh. It show his life through the time he lived in Paris to his death. You see his genius as well as his struggle with mental health. Including his well known act of cutting off his ear. Williem Dafoe is Vincent and I can see why he is nominated for the role. Other than that I'm not sure about all the festival hype for this movie. I don't know that I've seen a historical true story done as a independent film. You can tell it is an independent film. There is a lower quality to the camera work. Also we spend half the movie looking at his feet as he walks around. I didn't like this movie. If you want a good Vincent van Gogh movie watch Lust for Life or Loving Vincent.  Saturday: Alita: Battle Angel (2019)        The story is about a futuristic world where cyborgs are a normal part of life. There is the hard life on the ground and the good life in the city above. A ...

Fields of Grass and the Pop Culture Legos

Life and weather got in the way of going to a restaurant this week. Monday: The Sea of Grass (1947)       This western stars Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. You know it is going to be a good movie when it stars those two. I don't typically like westerns but I had to watch it if they were both in it. This movie is about a city girl who marries a cattle rancher. She moves out to his ranch. It is a huge piece of property with lots of grass for the cattle to eat. As time goes on she discovers that he is not a good man. She falls in love with a lawyer. When it is discovered that her toddler doesn't belong to her husband she is exiled back to the city. They both struggle in their separate lives. This is a good movie. I wish it was in color because I'm sure that massive field of grass would look even more beautiful. Tuesday: The Two Mrs. Carrolls (1947)        In this film a struggling artist (Humphrey Bogart) falls in love with a young woman (Barb...

Childhood Fantasy and the Classic Tale

No restaurant this week because my sister was sick. Monday: Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland (1989)       I was reminded of this movie last week and went on YouTube to see if there were any clips to watch. Turns out the whole movie is on YouTube for free, so I decided to watch it. I had this movie on VHS growing up. It scared me but also fascinated me. It is an animated film about a boy who travels to Slumberland on his flying bed. He becomes heir to the throne. He befriends a character named Flip who gets him in trouble. They open a forbidden door and the king of Slumberland gets taken to Nightmare land. Nemo and his friends must go there to rescue the king. I'm afraid to say this movie does not hold up over the years. The characters' voices are annoying and some of the themes seem overly simple. The animation is still good. I still like get anxious when the train is going to hit the house and when the nightmare invades the castle. There are some entertai...
