Tony and the Unfinished Paintings

Friday: The End of Oak Street (2026)

Denise lives with her husband and two kids. She is struggling with her marriage and finding her purpose. Strange things start to happen in her neighborhood. Like a plant showing up in her neighbor's yard that hasn't been around in thousands of years. Then one night there is a big flash of light. In the morning Denise and her family start to notice things are off. Then they see a dinosaur. Somehow their neighborhood has been transported back to the Mesozoic era. Her family has to try and survive. Hopefully finding a way back to their time. I thought this movie was ok. The acting wasn't great. There were these weird shots where there would be a close up of the side of someone's face but you could see the person in the background in focus too. There was a weird blurring around the close up face. It just looked bad. Luckily they didn't do that the whole movie. Some of the plot points where just a little too convenient.

Saturday: Tuner (2026)

Niki is a piano tuner. He has hearing condition that makes him hyper sensitive to sound. After helping his mentor, Harry, break into his own safe; Niki realizes he has a knack for cracking safes. On a job he encounters men trying to rob a safe. He helps them only to make them be quiet. They offer him a job. Niki initially refuses. Then Harry gets sick and has medical debt. So Niki agrees to work for the thieves. While he works for them his life starts to turn around. He gets better work and meets a woman he likes. But it all catches up with him in the end. This movie was alright.

Sunday: Nickel Boys (2024)

Elwood is a black teenage boy living in Florida in the 60s. While walking to school one day he accepts a ride from a nicely dressed black man in a fancy car. They get pulled over by a cop. Elwood is arrested for being a car thief even though he was just getting a ride. He is sent to a reform school. The boys are treated horribly there. Belittled, beaten, and worse. He makes a friend, Turner. They do their best to stick together and get through this hard time. We also see Elwood in the future. He is investigating the reforms schools and writing about it. I thought this movie was alright. Most of it was shot from first person perspective. So most of the time we don't see Elwoods's face. We are seeing what he is seeing. Which is an interesting way to shoot it. This movie is based on real reforms schools that existed in that time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Friday: Tony (2026)

This is based on a true story. Anthony "Tony" Bourdain is a college freshman who wants to be a writer. He goes up for a  summer fellowship, and doesn't get it. So he follows his crush, Nancy, to Cape Cod. There he finds out she has a boyfriend. He falls on hard times. Loses all his money and has no way home. A chef at a local restaurant helps him and offers him a place to stay in exchange for Tony doing dishes. Tony has no work ethic and is just a mess. Slowly he learns from the chef. He becomes a good worker and learns to love cooking. At the same time he is trying to win over Nancy. This movie was good. There were just a lot of awkward moments.

Saturday: The Christophers (2025)

Lori is a struggling artist. A former classmate, Sallie, who is the daughter of a famous artist, Julian Sklar, contacts her. Sallie and her brother want Lori to finish a series her father was working on called The Christopers. They are worth a lot of money. Lori agrees and gets a job as Julian's assistant. He is a difficult man. Despite being at odds most of the time they form a friendship. Lori questions whether she should go through with the forgeries. I thought this movie was alright.

Sunday: Masters of the Universe (2026)

Prince Adam is a young boy who lives in a fantasy world called Eternia. There is a sword of great power there. Whoever wields it will be the true leader. His kingdom is attacked by Skeletor and his army. The kingdom tries to fight back but fail to stop Skeletor. Skeletor is only after the sword. Adam is sent with the sword to Earth. He gets separated from the sword. He grows up and spends his time looking for the sword. He finally finds it. Then a monster comes after him. His childhood friend, Teela, shows up and takes him back to Eternia. It has been ravaged by Skeletor. Adam must try to wield the sword to use it's power to save his home. This movie is bad. Not sure why I watched it all they way through. It's over the top. Bad acting. They were trying to do the same thing as what was in the TV show. But it just doesn't translate into live action.

Travel Friends and the Logger's Life

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Grogu and the Friendly Neighbor

Friday: Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)         The Mandalorian (Mando) and Grogu are working for the New Republic. There are still many Imperial Warlords out there even if the Empire has fallen. Their new assignment is to find a warlord who is dangerous but not much is known about him. The Hutts have information on him. They will give it to Mando if he can rescue their nephew, Rotta. Rotta has been kidnapped and made to fight in nightly cage matches. Mando and Grogu set out to rescue him, but much more is at play than they knew. I thought this movie was good. It's a stand alone adventure. So if you haven't watched the tv series you'll be ok. Wish I had known that before I gave me parents (who went with me) a recap of all three seasons. Oh well. They still enjoyed it. Grogu is so cute. And that's all the matters. Saturday: WarGames (1983)          David is an intelligent teen who is great with computers. While trying to get ...

Wolf and the Fake Fiancee

Friday: You. Me & Tuscany (2026)        Anna is a young woman who lost her passion for cooking after her mother passed. She's been housesitting, but it's not enough. One night she meets and Italian man, Matteo. They hit it off and he tells her about his empty villa in Italy that he never uses. Anna takes this as an invitation to use her pre-paid plane ticket and fly to Italy and stay at his empty villa. She gets caught by his family. They assume she is his fiancee and she goes along with it. Anna is introduced to the rest of the family, including Matteo's adopted brother Michael. Michael and Anna immediately hit it off, but can't do anything because she is engaged to his brother. When Matteo shows up things get even more complicated. I thought this movie was alright. It's cute and nice to have a new romantic comedy come out in theaters . It's just a little cheesy and over the top for me. Almost like a Hallmark movie or the like.  Saturday: The Bad Guys...
