Lightning and the Origins of Oz

 Wednesday: Merv (2025)

Anna and Russ share a dog named Merv. They recently broke up. Soon they notice that Merv isn't acting like his usual self. They take him to the vet and find out he's depressed. So they have to do all they can to make him happy. Russ takes him to a dog friendly resort by a beach. Anna tags along. It's awkward but they want to be there for Merv. They start to remember why they liked each other in the first place. I thought this movie was alright. Cute but not the best. It is Christmas movie.

Saturday: Song Sung Blue (2025)

This is based on a true story. Mike, stage name Lightning, is a performer mostly known for being an impersonator. At a state fair he meets Claire, another impersonator. They hit it off. She thinks he would be a good Neil Diamond. They put together a tribute act and go by Lightning and Thunder. They fall in love and get married. They have great success. They open for Pearl Jam. Then Claire gets hit by a car and they face new lows. Through it all their love for each other and music carry them through. This movie was good. Although I will say Hugh Jackman (Mike) has a very specific singing voice. Doesn't really sound like Neil's.

Sunday: Meet Joe Black (1998)

William is a wealthy man getting ready to celebrate his 65th birthday. He starts to have heart trouble. Also he starts to hear a voice. Later he finds out the voice is Death. Death is there to escort William to the afterlife. First he wants to live as a human. He makes a deal with William. If William will be his guide, William can live for a couple more days. Death takes the body of a young man and is named Joe Black by William. William struggles with his impending death and is unsure how to come to terms with it. Joe likes being human and discovering what it is like. He falls in love with William's daughter. They know it can't last. I thought this movie was good. There is just a lot of awkward moments.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Friday: Wicked: For Good (2025)

This picks up where the last movie left off. Elphaba has been made into a villain, the Wicked Witch. Glinda is the Good Witch. Bringing hope to the people. Fiyero is the captain of the guard searching for Elphaba. The yellow brick road is being built. Elphaba is determined to save the talking animals and take down the Wizard. Her actions are effecting those closest to her. The Wizard and Madame Morrible are relentless in their pursuit. Not caring who they hurt. Even enlisting the help of a girl from Kansas to hunt Elphaba down. Elphaba is tired of it all and fights back. This movie was alright. The first part is better. It takes a while to get back into it. I think waiting a year to release part two was a mistake. There were some interesting parts. Like seeming how Dorothy's friends came to be. The set design is amazing.

Saturday: Goodbye June (2025)

June has a medical emergency and finds out she will soon die. Her adult children come to be with her. They struggles to come to terms with her dying. They also have to try and put aside their strained relationships to be there for their mother. I thought this movie was alright. Sad, but has some humor. Kate Winslet directed it as well as played one of June's daughters.

Travel Friends and the Logger's Life

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

King George III and the Abandoned Door

Friday: Fight or Flight (2025)       Lucas is a former secret service agent. He was stranded in Bangkok after a failed assignment. Later he receives a call from his ex who know works at a different agency. A target, only known as Ghost, is getting on a plane headed for the U.S. He is the only one close enough to get on the plane in time. Lucas has to find Ghost and bring them home. Soon he discovers the plane is filled with people wanting to kill both of them. Lucas has to protect Ghost. This movie was ok. Except for the two main actors, all the acting is bad. The writing is bad. It's like they thought they could just put in a bunch of swear words and not have to actually write dialogue. There are some fun moments. It's basically Bullet Train but on a plane. Just watch Bullet Train instead. Saturday: Suzume (2022)       Suzume is a teenage girl living in Japan. One day she meets a mysterious young man, Souta, who is looking for an abandoned place with...
