Friday: Materialists (2025)
Lucy is a matchmaker. She has become very successful. At a wedding of one of her clients she meets the brother of the groom, Harry. Harry is very wealthy and charming. Despite not wanting a relationship she falls for him. At the same wedding she runs into her ex, John. He is a cater waiter at the wedding. They meet up after to catch up. Despite her delight in seeing him she ends up spending most of the night with Harry. Lucy and Harry start seeing each other. He is everything she thought she wanted. Soon Lucy starts to reevaluate her life. I thought this movie was ok. It's kinda slow. Not a romantic comedy like the trailer makes it seem. Barely a romance. More of a commentary on dating. I don't like the lead actress. She has kinda dead eyes. She doesn't really seem to commit to anything so you can't believe anything she does. It's like she doesn't put in any effort. I don't know. Something is just off about her. My main interest for this movie was the male leads. Also because I thought it was a romantic comedy. Which there aren't that many of anymore. Well ones that aren't raunchy.
Saturday: KPop Demon Hunters (2025)
This is set in Korea. Three women are chosen each generation to protect the world from demons. They keep them at bay in the underworld by singing, which produces a protective field. In present day it is done by a KPop girl group called HUNTR/X. They secretly fight demons. They are very famous. Soon they will achieve a new level of protection that could prevent the demons from ever coming into the human world again. A demon named Jinu comes up with a plan to form a boy KPop group to combat the girls. Breaking down their protection. The girls have to work together to fight this group. This movie was really good. My sister recommended it. I though it was just a cute animated movie. I was playing a game on my laptop as I started it. I had to immediately stop playing because I was so entranced by this movie. The animation style is unique. Almost like stop motion and CGI. Everything just looks so cool. The demon design is great. It's just really well done. I wanted to watch it again immediately.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Friday: Trail by Fire (2018)
This is based on a true story. Todd is at home with his three young daughters when the house catches fire. He makes it out but is unable to get his girls and they die in the fire. Due to his reputation and evidence he is charged with murder. Todd goes to trial and is found guilty and sentenced to death by lethal injection. The whole time he maintains that he is innocent. The trail was rigged as was the evidence. No one believes him or will help him. He lives for years on death row. He comes into contact with a writer named Elizabeth. They become friends and she tries to help him. She starts to find clear evidence that he didn't do it. They have to race against the clock to get him a new trial. I thought this movie was ok. I'm disappointed by the ending. Not all mysteries get tied up nicely though.

They think he is Earth's leader. Their planet comes under threat from a violent attacker. Elio volunteers to make peace. In doing so makes friends with the attacker's son.
