King George III and the Abandoned Door

 Friday: Fight or Flight (2025)

      Lucas is a former secret service agent. He was stranded in Bangkok after a failed assignment. Later he receives a call from his ex who know works at a different agency. A target, only known as Ghost, is getting on a plane headed for the U.S. He is the only one close enough to get on the plane in time. Lucas has to find Ghost and bring them home. Soon he discovers the plane is filled with people wanting to kill both of them. Lucas has to protect Ghost. This movie was ok. Except for the two main actors, all the acting is bad. The writing is bad. It's like they thought they could just put in a bunch of swear words and not have to actually write dialogue. There are some fun moments. It's basically Bullet Train but on a plane. Just watch Bullet Train instead.

Saturday: Suzume (2022)

      Suzume is a teenage girl living in Japan. One day she meets a mysterious young man, Souta, who is looking for an abandoned place with a door standing on its own. After directing him to an abandoned village she's curious and follows him. She finds the door and opens it. Later at school she notices smoke coming from the abandoned village. Worried about Souta, she rides her bike there and finds him fighting to close the door against a strange force coming out of it. She learns that she has opened a door to another realm and set off a chain of events that could destroy Japan. Suzume and Souta have to get to all the doors and shut them before anything bad happens. This movie is good. I liked it a lot. I want to watch more films by this filmmaker. 

Sunday: The Madness of King George (1994)

        This is based on a true story. Not long after losing the U.S., King George III starts to go mad. Rambling and raving. His physical health suffers as well. Eager to have the throne, his eldest son puts it out there that his father is incompetent. He works with other members of parliament to make him regent. Meanwhile the other members of the royal household and the Prime Minister are trying to get the king help and make him better. They learn of a man who specializes in ailments of the mind, Willis. They bring him to the palace. Willis' methods are unconventional, especially when dealing with a king, but they are effective. He works with the king to bring him back to a more stable state of mind. I thought this movie was good.

Shoyu Ramen and the Baron

        Friday I went to a place called Hapa Ramen.  It's on SE Gladstone. It actually has it's own parking lot. That being said there is only 5 or 6 spots. It's a small place. You order and then you find your table. I sat at the ramen bar. The decor is dark. Most of the walls and part of the bar is covered in dark wood panels. There are also shelves with lots of plants and Japanese decorations. It is also a whiskey bar. They even have pairings with the different menu items. I didn't get any. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen which has pork and a marinated egg. It was really good. But I forgot to ask for no onions, which ruined it a little for me. To be fair the menu didn't say it came with onions but I guess that's a common ingredient in ramen. The service was good.  I would go back for sure. I know it's a place my sister would like. Grogu and the Friendly Neighbor

 Friday: Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)         The Mandalorian (Mando) and Grogu are working for the New Republic. There are still many Imperial Warlords out there even if the Empire has fallen. Their new assignment is to find a warlord who is dangerous but not much is known about him. The Hutts have information on him. They will give it to Mando if he can rescue their nephew, Rotta. Rotta has been kidnapped and made to fight in nightly cage matches. Mando and Grogu set out to rescue him, but much more is at play than they knew. I thought this movie was good. It's a stand alone adventure. So if you haven't watched the tv series you'll be ok. Wish I had known that before I gave me parents (who went with me) a recap of all three seasons. Oh well. They still enjoyed it. Grogu is so cute. And that's all the matters.
