Emotions and the Psych Professor

 Tuesday: The Smiling Ghost (1941)

Lucky is an engineer who is struggling to make ends meet. He gets hired to pretend to be the fiance of an heiress, Elinor. Elinor is believed to be cursed. Her last three fiances have been killed or seriously injured. Her family wants to prove that there is no curse. So Lucky must pretend to be her fiance for a month and survive. Once at her house he learns that there are some who believe that a ghost, known as the Smiling Ghost, is responsible for harming the other fiances. Lucky soon finds himself in danger. He ends up working with a reporter, Lil, to get to the bottom of what is really happening. I thought this movie was alright.

Friday: Inside Out 2 (2024)

While there she has to deal with the pressure of trying to be a top player and personal friendships. Inside her emotions are changing. Joy and the others are struggling to keep up with these new situations. New emotions come: Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui. Anxiety takes over. She wants to change Riley's sense of self. Joy fights her on that and Anxiety ends up bottling her up with the other older emotions. She also throws out Riley's old sense of self. Joy and the others must breaks out and find the sense of self and return it to headquarters before Riley is changed. This movie was good.

Saturday: Hit Man (2024)

This is inspired by a true story. Gary is a psych professor. To make some extra money he gets involved with uncover work with the police. Bringing in people who hire hitmen. One day their normal front man is suspended. So Gary has to go in and pretend to be the hitman. He's nervous at first but ends up being really good at it. Soon he really gets into it. Tailoring each hitman persona to who they're trying to arrest. His next target is a young woman, Madison, who wants to kill her husband. When Gary meets with her he learns that her husband is abusive and she thinks this is her only way out. He convinces her not to go through with it. He is attracted to her. After another meeting they end up starting to see each other, Gary still pretending to be a hitman. Which breaks all kinds of rules. It gets complicated. I thought this movie was good. Even though it has a strange twist. There was a man named Gary who did undercover work while being a professor. But that's the only similarity.

Sunday: Falling for Figaro (2020)

Millie is an American living in London with her boyfriend. She is a successful fund manager. Millie decides to give it all up and follow her dream to be an opera singer. The only way to break into opera singing so late in life is to win the Singer of Renown competition. It's recommended that she take lessons from a former opera singer Meghan. So Millie travels to the Scottish Highland to convince Meghan to train her. Meghan has another student, Max, who has led an unsuccessful career. Meghan agrees to teach Millie. Millie finds that she does have talent as a singer. She and Max grow close as they both prepare for the competition.  This movie was alright. I avoided watching because I don't like opera singing. I muted most of the singing. But I did find the story to be interesting, so that's why I finally watched it.

Travel Friends and the Logger's Life

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

King George III and the Abandoned Door

Friday: Fight or Flight (2025)       Lucas is a former secret service agent. He was stranded in Bangkok after a failed assignment. Later he receives a call from his ex who know works at a different agency. A target, only known as Ghost, is getting on a plane headed for the U.S. He is the only one close enough to get on the plane in time. Lucas has to find Ghost and bring them home. Soon he discovers the plane is filled with people wanting to kill both of them. Lucas has to protect Ghost. This movie was ok. Except for the two main actors, all the acting is bad. The writing is bad. It's like they thought they could just put in a bunch of swear words and not have to actually write dialogue. There are some fun moments. It's basically Bullet Train but on a plane. Just watch Bullet Train instead. Saturday: Suzume (2022)       Suzume is a teenage girl living in Japan. One day she meets a mysterious young man, Souta, who is looking for an abandoned place with...
