Billy Walsh and the Gangster's Girlfriend

 Tuesday: The Big Combo (1955)

A police officer, Leonard, is determined to take down a dangerous mobster called Mr. Brown. It is costing the department too much money to keep going after Brown. After trying to go after Brown's accountant, Leonard makes one more play before being forced to give up the case. He goes after Brown's girlfriend, Susan. Susan ends up in the hospital and Leonard is able to see her. She mentions a name that could crack the case wide open. Leonard has to track the person down. All the while knowing Brown knows he is onto him and has little evidence to take him down. I thought this movie was good. I liked how Brown talked. It was very distinctive. Also there is a cool shot where you don't see one of Brown's goons in the shadows until he lights a match and becomes illuminated by the light.

Wednesday: This Happy Feeling (1958)

Janet is at a party with her boss. She leaves the party early in a storm because her boss is hitting on her. She finds a ride to the train station with a young man named Bill. When he too seems to be hitting on her she gets out of the car and runs away. Janet ends up at the house of an older retired actor, Preston. He takes her in for the night and treats her well. Things get messy when his sometimes girlfriend calls and Janet answers. She pretends to be his secretary. The next day she finds out Bill works for Preston, and is not a creep. Preston ends up actually hiring Janet to be his secretary. Despite their age difference Janet falls for Preston. This movie was alright.

Friday: The Long Game (2023)

This is based on a true story. A Mexican-American man, JB, wants to join his local golf club. They will not let him be a member because he is Mexican. JB soon afters starts his new job as a superintendent at a mostly Latino high school.  He learns that if a school's golf team makes it to state they play at the club that rejected him. JB notices five students playing golf on their own course off a highway. They are caddies at the club. JB convinces them to join the golf team. They end up being great players. The team faces many hardships but they pull through. I thought this movie was alright. A good story, just not done that well.

Saturday: How to Date Billy Walsh (2024)

This movie is set in England. Archie and Amelia have been best friends since they were kids. Archie has loved Amelia the whole time. In their last year of high school he finally gets the courage to tell her. Then an American named Billy Walsh transfers to the school. Amelia has a huge crush on Billy. When Amelia needs help getting Billy's attention, Archie pretends to be a love doctor. Instead of helping her he gives her bad advice that embarrasses her. It all blows up in his face. This movie is good. Not the best but still cute.

Sunday: Out of Sight (1998)

Jack has been robbing banks his whole life. He's lost count of how many he's robbed. He has been in and out of prison. During his latest stint he learns that another prisoner, a wealthy man, keeps a lot of his money and uncut diamonds in his home. Jack comes up with a plan to brake out of prison and steal the money and diamonds. His plan would have gone perfectly, but a federal marshal, Karen, just happens to be where he is braking out from. Along with his get away driver, Buddy, they kidnap her. Jack instantly falls for Karen. Despite herself Karen falls for him too. After getting away from them Karen joins the task force to track them down. Jack and Buddy continue with their plan despite the police on their tail and other complications. I thought this movie was alright.

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

King George III and the Abandoned Door

Friday: Fight or Flight (2025)       Lucas is a former secret service agent. He was stranded in Bangkok after a failed assignment. Later he receives a call from his ex who know works at a different agency. A target, only known as Ghost, is getting on a plane headed for the U.S. He is the only one close enough to get on the plane in time. Lucas has to find Ghost and bring them home. Soon he discovers the plane is filled with people wanting to kill both of them. Lucas has to protect Ghost. This movie was ok. Except for the two main actors, all the acting is bad. The writing is bad. It's like they thought they could just put in a bunch of swear words and not have to actually write dialogue. There are some fun moments. It's basically Bullet Train but on a plane. Just watch Bullet Train instead. Saturday: Suzume (2022)       Suzume is a teenage girl living in Japan. One day she meets a mysterious young man, Souta, who is looking for an abandoned place with...
