Flerkens and the Missing Mystery Writer

 Tuesday: Agatha (1979)

In December of 1926 Agatha Christie disappeared for 11 days. No one knows what happened during that time. This movie tell a fictional story of what could have happened. Agatha is in an unhappy marriage. She knows her husband is cheating on her. He tells her he wants a divorce. She refuses. Upset she runs away to a spa resort. A resort where her husband's mistress just happens to be. Agatha spies on her. The rest of the world thinks she is missing. A reporter named Wally discovers where she is. He follows her to the resort and pretends to be someone else to get close to her. Wally hopes to write an article about what really happened. I thought this movie was good.

Wednesday: Palm Springs Weekend (1963)

College students flock to Palm Springs for Easter weekend. This includes a men's basketball team. One of whom, an aspiring doctor, falls for a local girl. Gayle is a teenager who is pretending to be 21. On the road to Palm Springs she meets a handsome young man named Eric. He is wealthy. Gayle also meets Stretch, a young man from Texas living in LA to be an actor. Although she likes both men she goes out with Eric. Eric can be harsh and dangerous. Everyone has a wild weekend. It doesn't end like they expected it to. This movie was alright. Not the best, but fun. Also they make it seem like Gayle is way younger, but at the end she says she's 18. So yes she's a teenager but one about to graduate high school and start college soon. Not a freshman.

Friday: The Marvels (2023)

Carol is sent to discover a disturbance at a jump point. It was created by Dar-Benn, who seeks revenge on Carol for destroying her home planet. Dar-Benn has found a bangle which will enhance her powers. She used it to open a worm hole near the jump point. Captain Rambeau (Monica) has discovered a disturbance at another jump point. She and Carol use their powers near it and somehow their powers become entangled. They also become entangled with Kamala who has the matching bangle to the one Dar-Benn has. Now whenever they use their powers they switch places. Finally they come together to find out what Dar-Benn's plan is and how to stop her. I thought this movie was good. Better than the last Ant-Man. But I can see how people can criticize it for an under developed villain. Who is played by the (partner? wife?) of Tom Hiddleston (Loki).

Sunday: The Mysterious Island (1929)

Count Andre lives on an island near Hetvia. He believes there is a race of people living at the bottom of the ocean. Andre has found bones that prove they exist. The island is the perfect starting point. He has built submarines to find the people living on the bottom of the ocean. One day his friend Baron Falon comes to visit. When he learns about the submarines he tries to convince Andre to use them to help him become king of Hetvia and then ruler of the world. Andre refuses. Later Baron returns with an army to take the submarines by force. The battle that ensues ends badly for everyone. This movie was ok. It came out right on the cusp of talking pictures. It had been a silent film. But they knew it wouldn't do well after The Jazz Singer came out. They needed sound. So they went back and added some scenes with sound. So it's this strange mix of silent film and talkie.

Travel Friends and the Logger's Life

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

Wolf and the Fake Fiancee

Friday: You. Me & Tuscany (2026)        Anna is a young woman who lost her passion for cooking after her mother passed. She's been housesitting, but it's not enough. One night she meets and Italian man, Matteo. They hit it off and he tells her about his empty villa in Italy that he never uses. Anna takes this as an invitation to use her pre-paid plane ticket and fly to Italy and stay at his empty villa. She gets caught by his family. They assume she is his fiancee and she goes along with it. Anna is introduced to the rest of the family, including Matteo's adopted brother Michael. Michael and Anna immediately hit it off, but can't do anything because she is engaged to his brother. When Matteo shows up things get even more complicated. I thought this movie was alright. It's cute and nice to have a new romantic comedy come out in theaters . It's just a little cheesy and over the top for me. Almost like a Hallmark movie or the like.  Saturday: The Bad Guys...
