Salome and the Smurf Collection

 Tuesday: The Frisco Kid (1979)

Avram is a young rabbi. He is sent to the U.S. from Poland to be the rabbi at a synagogue in San Fransisco. When he gets to the East Coast he is almost immediately robbed. Still he is determined to make it to San Fransisco. Soon he meets an outlaw named Tommy. Tommy reluctantly helps Avram. He makes several attempts to leave Avram but worries what will happen if he's not there. They face many obstacles on their way west. I thought this movie was alright.

Wednesday: Lured (1947)

Sandra is an American living in London. She works at a dance hall. One day her coworker goes missing. She is called into the police station to give information on her.  The police tell her about a killer who is putting ads in the paper asking to meet up with women. Later he kills them. They believe this is what happened to her coworker. The police want her to work undercover and help them catch the murderer. She answers any ad looking to meet up. Along the way she meets a club owner and falls in love. This movie was alright.

Friday: Double Feature- Women Talking (2022) and Bones and All (2022)

Women Talking is based on a true story. In a small religious community the women are being raped. It is happening to almost all of them. They are drugged in their sleep and wake up bleeding and bruised. Then they catch one of them and he is sent to jail. All the men go to bail him out. The women have to decide whether to stay and forgive the men or leave. A small group of  the women are chosen to make the decision after their attempt at voting doesn't work. They have to decided whether to stay and forgive, stay and fight, or leave. They struggle with what to do. Each sharing their own experiences. I thought this movie was good. It makes me mad. That men of a religious community commit these horrible acts and think they can just get away with it. I have now seen all movies nominated for best pictures. Well all of the ones that I'm willing to see.

Bones and All is about a young woman named Maren. She has something wrong with her where she craves human flesh. She has had to move from town to town with her dad after incidents. Then one day her dad leaves her and she's on her own. She wants to find her mom to see if she can get answers. So Maren sets out to find her. Along the way she meets others like her. Including a young man named Lee. They fall for each other. Lee goes with her to find her mother. Their lifestyle catches up with them. This movie was alright.

Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

Wolf and the Fake Fiancee

Friday: You. Me & Tuscany (2026)        Anna is a young woman who lost her passion for cooking after her mother passed. She's been housesitting, but it's not enough. One night she meets and Italian man, Matteo. They hit it off and he tells her about his empty villa in Italy that he never uses. Anna takes this as an invitation to use her pre-paid plane ticket and fly to Italy and stay at his empty villa. She gets caught by his family. They assume she is his fiancee and she goes along with it. Anna is introduced to the rest of the family, including Matteo's adopted brother Michael. Michael and Anna immediately hit it off, but can't do anything because she is engaged to his brother. When Matteo shows up things get even more complicated. I thought this movie was alright. It's cute and nice to have a new romantic comedy come out in theaters . It's just a little cheesy and over the top for me. Almost like a Hallmark movie or the like.  Saturday: The Bad Guys...
