Puss in Boots and the Aspiring Astronaut

 Monday: Rosaline (2022)

Rosaline is the daughter of a wealthy man. She is smart and opinionated. He wants to marry her off. Rosaline does was she can to get out of these matches. She is in love with Romeo. They are from feuding houses so they have to hid their romance. Rosaline plans to meet him at a masked ball. But first she is stuck meeting her father's latest match Dario. They go sailing. She is late to the ball. In that time Romeo meets her cousin Juliet. They fall for each other. Rosaline is determined to break them up and get Romeo back for herself. She does whatever she can to keep them apart. Along the way she learns what she really wants. I thought this movie was alright. It was interesting take on the classic tale.

Tuesday: The Swimmers (2022)

This is based on a true story. Sara and references are sisters living in Syria. They are both swimmers. Yusura is the more talented and devoted of the two. Her dream is to go to the Olympics. Then the war comes. Syria becomes a very dangerous place to live. There is no way for Yusura to train or compete. There is a program where teens under 18 can go to Germany and then apply for family reunion. Then the rest of their family will be flown over. Yusra is not yet 18 so it could work for them. Yusra, Sara, and their cousin Nizar leave for Germany. First they fly to Turkey and then try to find a smuggler to take them to Greece. They get on a boat and almost don't survive the journey. From Greece they have to make their way to Germany. It is not an easy journey. They are in constant danger and trust the wrong people. They do eventually make it to Germany. Yusra finds a coach who will help her train. She is determined to get to the 2016 Olympics. This movie was alright. It's a great story. It's crazy what happened (is happening?) in Syria. How many refugees there were.

Wednesday: Luckiest Girl Alive (2022)

Ani has the life of her dreams. She is a reporter at a magazine on her way to working for the New York times. She is about to marry a rich man. Then her dark past comes back to haunt her. A documentary is being made about a mass shooting that happened when she was in high school. Despite the trauma Ani decides to tell her side of the story. She was a scholarship student at a private high school. Tensions ran high. She was friends with the boys who later became the shooters. People think she was involved. Ani has to come to terms with her trauma that came before the shooting and was only made more complicated by it. This movie is good. It's dark. Not exactly what I was expecting, but well done.

Friday: Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)

Puss has become a legend. After a fight he is killed. When he wakes up the doctor told him he is on his last of his nine lives. Puss becomes scared and runs to a cat sanctuary. There he meets a dog, Perrito, pretending to be a cat to get food. Puss becomes depressed. Then Goldilocks and the Three Bears show up to find him. They are on a quest for a wishing star. If found they will be granted one wish. They need Puss to steal the map to the star. Puss hides and they leave. After they are gone Puss decides to find the star himself and wish for the rest of his lives back. Perrito tags along. Puss also runs into Kitty Softpaws who is also looking for the star. They join forces to get to the star first. I thought this movie was good. They always do a good job with these Shrek and Puss in Boots movies. I love all the fairytale refrences.

Saturday: Gattaca (1997)

This movie is set in the not too distant future. Children are not born naturally. They are designed and made to be perfect. Vincent is born naturally and deemed inferior. His younger brother is born in the new way and is better in every way. Despite that Vincent is determined to be better. He wants to travel to space. This other man, Jerome, is superior; but his drinking has caused problems for him. He was also in an accident that paralyzed him. Vincent will become Jerome. Jerome gets to live how he wants and gets some of the money. This allows Vincent to become part of the space program. After his boss is killed he becomes a suspect. Vincent has to work extra hard not to be discovered. This movie is good.

Travel Friends and the Logger's Life

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

King George III and the Abandoned Door

Friday: Fight or Flight (2025)       Lucas is a former secret service agent. He was stranded in Bangkok after a failed assignment. Later he receives a call from his ex who know works at a different agency. A target, only known as Ghost, is getting on a plane headed for the U.S. He is the only one close enough to get on the plane in time. Lucas has to find Ghost and bring them home. Soon he discovers the plane is filled with people wanting to kill both of them. Lucas has to protect Ghost. This movie was ok. Except for the two main actors, all the acting is bad. The writing is bad. It's like they thought they could just put in a bunch of swear words and not have to actually write dialogue. There are some fun moments. It's basically Bullet Train but on a plane. Just watch Bullet Train instead. Saturday: Suzume (2022)       Suzume is a teenage girl living in Japan. One day she meets a mysterious young man, Souta, who is looking for an abandoned place with...
