Werewolves and the Sanderson Sisters

 Sunday: Wolfwalkers (2020)

Robyn and her father move from England to a city in Scotland. The city is surrounded by high walls to keep the wolves out. Robyn's father was brought there to hunt the wolves. The Lord Protector wants the nearby forest cleared of wolves so he can expand. Robyn wants to be a hunter like her father. One day she follows him into the forest. She falls into a trap. A wolf comes and helps her out. Robyn chases the wolf into a secret lair. Only to find the wolf gone and before her is a little girl. Mebh introduces herself. She is a wolfwalker. When she sleeps her wolf form comes out. Now sympathetic to the wolves Robyn must find a way to help them. I liked this movie.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Friday: See How They Run (2022)

A successful play on the West End in London is going to be turned into a movie. Then the would be director of the movie winds up murdered. Everyone is a suspect. Seasoned Inspector Stoppard and rookie Constable Stalker are brought in to solve the case. They have to find who in the theater killed the director. I thought this film was good. A little campy but it's supposed to be. It's a who done it with some classic film noir elements.

Saturday: Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)

Becca and her friend Izzy have a ritual every year where they go into the forest and "perform" spells to help the upcoming year. The new candle they light ends up being a black flame candle. It brings back the Sanderson Sisters. The sisters are desperate to survive the night and regain their youth. Instead of draining the life from children they want to become all powerful. Becca and Izzy try and stop them. I liked this movie. I wasn't sure how this movie would turn out. The first one is such a classic. Part of its appeal is the nostalgia you get when watching it. It's hard to recapture nostalgia. They did a decent job of it in this movie. They touched on bits that we like while also adding new elements.

Sunday: Plymouth Adventure (1952)

Captain Jones makes his money taking people on his ship to the new world. Before his upcoming voyage he is told to take them to Plymouth, Massachusetts instead of Virginia without telling his passengers. He doesn't care as long as he gets his money. They face many obstacles. The journey is rough, but they make it to Plymouth. This movie was alright. Better than I thought it was going to be. Mostly I watched it because Captain Jones was played by Spencer Tracy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Friday: Amsterdam (2022)

While serving in WWI Bert becomes close friends with a black man named Harold and a nurse named Valarie. After the war they spend sometime together in Amsterdam. They become a family. Harold and Valaries fall in love. It comes to an end. Bert has to return to his wife. He gets in trouble back in New York. Harold is a lawyer and goes back to help him. Valarie uses her family's influence to help. Back in the U.S. Harold and Valarie can't be together. Later while trying to help the daughter of their general, who is suspected of being murdered, Bert and Harold witness her being killed. They are blamed for killing her. Bert and Harold have to prove their innocence and find out what is really going on. I thought this movie was ok. It has its moments. But overall it's not very good. The script is horrible. If there is a script at all. It's so disjointed. The acting is off too. I don't know why they had to cast Taylor Swift in it. She is a horrible actress. Thankfully (spoiler alert) her character dies pretty quickly so we don't have to suffer too long.

Saturday: Werewolf by Night (2022)

The Bloodstone family wields a magical stone that helps them fight monsters. When the head of the family dies the stone must be passed on. It should go to his daughter, but she has long been estranged. So the top monster hunters are gathered to compete to win the stone. Among them is Jack. He has other motives for being there. He also has a secret that could put him and everyone else in danger. This movie is good. It's a Marvel movie. It's in black and white with the only color being the red of the stone. Although with most modern movies in black and white it's not truly black and white. You can almost see the colors. This movie was made like a classic horror film like The Wolf Man or Dracula. They even put the cigarette burns in the corner. Like they used to do to indicate it was time to change the reel.

Travel Friends and the Logger's Life

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

King George III and the Abandoned Door

Friday: Fight or Flight (2025)       Lucas is a former secret service agent. He was stranded in Bangkok after a failed assignment. Later he receives a call from his ex who know works at a different agency. A target, only known as Ghost, is getting on a plane headed for the U.S. He is the only one close enough to get on the plane in time. Lucas has to find Ghost and bring them home. Soon he discovers the plane is filled with people wanting to kill both of them. Lucas has to protect Ghost. This movie was ok. Except for the two main actors, all the acting is bad. The writing is bad. It's like they thought they could just put in a bunch of swear words and not have to actually write dialogue. There are some fun moments. It's basically Bullet Train but on a plane. Just watch Bullet Train instead. Saturday: Suzume (2022)       Suzume is a teenage girl living in Japan. One day she meets a mysterious young man, Souta, who is looking for an abandoned place with...
