Waffle Grilled Cheese and the Gentleman's List

First off I am probably only going to post every other week. I'm just not watching that many movies right now.

Yesterday my parents and I hiked the Wahclella Falls Trail in the Columbia River Gorge. Before that we had lunch at Sugarpine Drive In. It is in Troutdale off the Historic Columbia River Highway. There is a parking lot put it's small. You also have the option to go to the drive thru. There is some indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. It is an updated version of a drive in. It still has the feel of a drive in but with modern touches. It takes inspiration from the nature it is surrounded by. The decor is very simple. Like a clean modern cabin. There is a meat smoker going. So you feel like you're by a campfire. There is a Hawaiian food truck nearby that is part of the restaurant. There was live music. I want to say it was bluegrass music, but I'm not sure. The food is classic drive in food that has been updated too. The best example is the ice cream (which there is a lot of) toppings. Like honey hot fudge and miso caramel. I got the waffle grilled cheese. It's not actually made with waffles. Just cooked in a waffle iron so the bread takes on the shape. I also got a side of tomato soup. The sandwich was smaller than I was expecting. But it was good. My dad go the build your own brat with a side of deviled egg potato salad. He liked both of them. My mom got the chili verde pulled pork sandwich and a side of the Kata's corn & ranch side salad. She liked both but it was a lot of food. We all enjoyed it. I would go back.

I wanted to go back there for ice cream after our hike but it was closed. So we ended up going to Nico's Ice Cream. It is on NE Fremont. I think the parking could be a little tricky. My dad just waited in the car so we didn't really worry about it. It is a small place. It has a bit of an East Coast feel. There is not much seating. Inside is simple with a mural of the logo taking up one wall. The ice cream is made with real fruit. It is soft serve. I got strawberry and my dad got blueberry. It was good. I'm not sure I would go back. Not enough chocolate.

Friday: Lightyear (2022)

Buzz is Andy's favorite toy from his favorite movie. This is that movie. Buzz is a young space ranger on a mission to a mysterious planet. They are there to see if it is habitable. Once they discover it is not they try to leave. Buzz's refusal to accept help costs them their ship and causes them to be stuck on the planet. They try to find a way to fly off the planet. Buzz tests out the rockets. Every time he goes four years passes. He is determined to fix his mistake but it costs him. In the end he has to work with a band of misfits to save everyone. I thought this movie was good.

Saturday: Elvis (2022)

Elvis is first discovered singing on the radio. He takes inspiration from black music. A circus manager, Colonel Tom Parker, sees him perform and knows he will be a star. So he hires Elvis to travel with the circus and perform. Elvis becomes a hit. Tom knows he could be more so they sign him up with a label. Elvis becomes famous. But fame has its costs. I don't want to say too much more because it's an almost 3 hour long movie and I would have to write several paragraphs. It is a good movie. Really well done. I never realized what a rebel he was. Or that he took so much inspiration from black music.

Sunday: Beauty and the Beast (1946)

This is a French film. The basic story is the same. It's a bit like Cinderella. Belle's father lost his money which has caused him to be unwell. Belle must becomes a servant and take care of her family. She has two spoiled sisters who refused to accept their family's fall from grace. One day Belle's father learns that they found one of his ships and that would bring money in. He goes to see what happened. On the way back home he gets lost and ends up at a hidden manor. There he discovers things aren't quite right. The candles are held by human arms. As he sits at a table an arm comes out of the table and pours his wine. He is scared and tries to leave. On the way he takes a rose. A beast dressed in fine clothing jumps out and takes him prisoner. He tells the father he will die unless he can find someone to take his place. Back at home Belle hears of this and runs away to the manor to take his place. The rest is the story we know for the most part. She is disgusted by the beast but ends up falling in love with him. I thought this movie was alright. I liked how they did the fantasy elements. But some of the acting was a bit much. Like a talkie made in the time when they were transitioning from silent films to talking films. The actors were over dramatic.

Tuesday: A Cry in the Dark (1988)

This is based on a true story. An Australian woman Lindy and her family are camping in outback Australia. One night after putting her baby to bed in the tent she goes back to talk with her husband and others. Then she hears a cry. When she goes to look she sees a dingo take her baby. They search frantically for the baby and never find her. The media goes into a frenzy. Lindy and her husband Michael begin giving interviews to stop this from happening to anyone else. But soon they are attacked. No one believes them. They try to set their story straight but it doesn't work. Then a case is brought against Lindy. They believe she killed her baby. They are dragged through a long trail and a never ending legal battle. I thought the movie was good. Meryl Streep plays Lindy. Her accent is amazing.

Friday: Mr. Malcolm's List (2022)

In the early 1800's Julia and Selina meet at finishing school. They stay in touch through the years. There is a handsome young man, Mr. Malcolm, who's come into some money. He has the eye of all the single women. Julia goes with him to the opera. They don't get on. Later she finds out from her cousin he rejected her because she doesn't lot match up the list he has of what his perfect woman is. To get revenge Julia hatches a plan. She brings Selina in the from the country. They will make Selina into the perfect woman to check every item on his list. Then when he is in love Selina will present Mr. Malcolm with a list of her own that he doesn't live up to. The plan doesn't go the way Julia wanted. Mr. Malcolm and Selina make a perfect match. I really enjoyed this movie. It is based on a book. There was also a short film made with almost the same cast. I really liked how diverse the cast was.

Travel Friends and the Logger's Life

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

King George III and the Abandoned Door

Friday: Fight or Flight (2025)       Lucas is a former secret service agent. He was stranded in Bangkok after a failed assignment. Later he receives a call from his ex who know works at a different agency. A target, only known as Ghost, is getting on a plane headed for the U.S. He is the only one close enough to get on the plane in time. Lucas has to find Ghost and bring them home. Soon he discovers the plane is filled with people wanting to kill both of them. Lucas has to protect Ghost. This movie was ok. Except for the two main actors, all the acting is bad. The writing is bad. It's like they thought they could just put in a bunch of swear words and not have to actually write dialogue. There are some fun moments. It's basically Bullet Train but on a plane. Just watch Bullet Train instead. Saturday: Suzume (2022)       Suzume is a teenage girl living in Japan. One day she meets a mysterious young man, Souta, who is looking for an abandoned place with...
