Sunday: Rome, Open City (1945)
This is an Italian film. Set in WWII Italy, Giorgio is working for the resistance. The Nazis are hunting him. So he hides at the apartment of his friend Francesco. Francesco's fiance lives next door and helps Giorgio. Giorgio also seeks help from his friend who is a priest. He asks the priest to pass on money to the other resistance fighters. Tensions rise. Giorgio can't stay hidden forever and he's putting others at risk. I thought this movie was ok.

As soon as they are on the road he pulls out a gun. Turns out he is a serial killer who kills people after they pick him up while hitch hiking. The police are on to him. He forces Roy and Gilbert to drive farther into Mexico. He has plans for escape. He will keep them alive as long as the police aren't tracking them. Friday: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
After Stephen Strange opens a doorway to the multiverse he starts to run into people who know other versions of him. A young teenager named America comes through a doorway as she's chased by an alien. Stephen recognizes her from a dream. She knew another Stephen. America is being chased across the multiverse for her power. Stephen seeks help from Wanda. He is met with a surprise. He has to do his best to save America and keep from disrupting any more worlds. I thought this movie was good. Some parts of if felt a little forced. I'm not sure about the writing. There were some fun surprises. One I already knew from the trailer. There are some bits from the What If...? series, which was cool to see.
Saturday: Double Feature- Pom Poko (1994) and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)
Pom Poko is about shape shifting raccoons. They can change their shape into anything they want. Humans are destroying their forest and building apartment buildings. Land and food becomes scarce. The raccoons fight back to stop the development. They research the humans and learn their ways. They first try by destroying equipment. When that doesn't work they seek the help of master shapeshifters. These masters have changed their form into spirits to scare the humans in the past. The raccoons try it and do their best to scare the humans. They have some success, but not enough. I thought this movie was alright. It is clearly about deforestation. Also the narration reminds me of a Wes Anderson film.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona is about two friends who travel to Spain. Vicky is invited to spend two months in Barcelona with some friends while she works on her thesis. She brings her friend Cristina. Vicky has resigned herself to a stable life and is engaged. Cristina is wild and open to anything. They meet an artist named Juan. He has recently had a messy and violent divorce. Juan invites them to come away with him for the weekend. Cristina agrees right away, while Vicky is more reluctant. Vicky warms to him and drops her defenses. But it could never work. Back in Barcelona Cristina and Juan reconnect. They fall hard for each other. Cristina moves in with him. Then so does his ex wife, Maria. Maria is unstable and jealous. Yet somehow they all end up getting along. Then it all becomes too much for everyone. This movie was alright.
