Dark Knight Noir and the Giant Red Panda

 Monday: Vivacious Lady (1938)

Peter is a professor in the city to get his cousin. Kieth, his cousin, was supposed to return to the college city they live in. Instead he was staying out all night going to clubs. Peter tracks him down at a club. There he meets a singer named Francey. They end up spending the night together getting to know each other, and get married. Peter brings her home with him. He knows his parents won't approve. Until he can tell them he pretends she is with Keith and is a new student. Peter struggles with finding the right time to tell his parents and not making Francey feel unwanted. I though this movie was alright.

Tuesday: The Stepfather (1987)

Jerry kills his whole family. Then he changes his appearance and moves to a new town. A year later he is married to a widow who has a teenage daughter. The daughter, Stephanie, has never gotten along with her stepdad. She starts to suspect something is wrong with him. Jerry finds out that she is looking into his past. His quest for a perfect family has failed again. There is only one way to end it, kill them too. This movie was ok. I mostly recorded it because it takes place in the Pacific NW. So of course it was filmed in Canada.

Wednesday: Chattahoochee (1989)

This is based on a true story. Emmett is a Korean War vet. After being back at home for a while he shoots up the neighborhood and then tries to kills himself. His goal was to get insurance money for his wife. Emmett is taken to a criminal insane asylum prison. He is not as severely mentally ill like most of the inmates. He makes friends with other inmates who are there only there because there wasn't room for them in a normal prison. Emmett starts to notice how poorly the other inmates are treated. He writes to their families to let them know what is happening. Emmett wants to make some real changes in the prison. I thought this movie was ok bordering on bad.

Friday: The Batman (2022)

Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, is brought in by James Gordon to help on a case. The mayor has been killed. There is a card addressed to the Batman. Inside is a riddle and a cipher. It leads to the next victim. A man calling himself the Riddler is killing city officials to reveal the corruption in the city. Most of it seems to revolve around a club run by the mob. At the club Bruce meets Selina, who is friends with a woman who was with the mayor. They team up to find out what is happening. Bruce starts to realize why the Riddler involved him in it. This is a good movie. It is really well done. The cinematography is amazing. It's beautiful. Not words I would think of using for a superhero movie. There is this great shot in the beginning when Bruce first goes to the club. He is fighting and the red club lights illuminate their silhouettes. It also feels like a film noir detective movie.

Saturday: Turning Red (2022)

Travel Friends and the Logger's Life

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

Wolf and the Fake Fiancee

Friday: You. Me & Tuscany (2026)        Anna is a young woman who lost her passion for cooking after her mother passed. She's been housesitting, but it's not enough. One night she meets and Italian man, Matteo. They hit it off and he tells her about his empty villa in Italy that he never uses. Anna takes this as an invitation to use her pre-paid plane ticket and fly to Italy and stay at his empty villa. She gets caught by his family. They assume she is his fiancee and she goes along with it. Anna is introduced to the rest of the family, including Matteo's adopted brother Michael. Michael and Anna immediately hit it off, but can't do anything because she is engaged to his brother. When Matteo shows up things get even more complicated. I thought this movie was alright. It's cute and nice to have a new romantic comedy come out in theaters . It's just a little cheesy and over the top for me. Almost like a Hallmark movie or the like.  Saturday: The Bad Guys...
