Time Travel and the Suit Cutter

Monday: The Innocents (1961)         Miss Giddens is a young woman living in Victorian England. She is hired to be the governess of a rich man's niece and nephew. He has no interest in them and has sent them to live in his country estate. Miss Giddens loves children and is excited to work with them. She firsts meets Flora who is a sweet little girl. Later Miles is expelled from school and sent home. He is very charming. Miss Giddens soon starts to suspect something is not right with the children. She learns about the deaths of the former gardener and governess. She starts to see their ghosts and is convinced they have possessed the children. She wants to get rid of the evil spirits. I thought this movie was ok. I have seen it before but I haven't written about it on this blog. I remember it being better. I think I'm confusing it with The Others, as far as the storyline. Wednesday: Walkabout (1971)      Two British children are out for a picnic wi...

Dark Knight Noir and the Giant Red Panda

Monday: Vivacious Lady (1938)            Peter is a professor in the city to get his cousin. Kieth, his cousin, was supposed to return to the college city they live in. Instead he was staying out all night going to clubs. Peter tracks him down at a club. There he meets a singer named Francey. They end up spending the night together getting to know each other, and get married. Peter brings her home with him. He knows his parents won't approve. Until he can tell them he pretends she is with Keith and is a new student. Peter struggles with finding the right time to tell his parents and not making Francey feel unwanted. I though this movie was alright. Tuesday: The Stepfather (1987)          Jerry kills his whole family. Then he changes his appearance and moves to a new town. A year later he is married to a widow who has a teenage daughter. The daughter, Stephanie, has never gotten along with her stepdad. She starts to suspect som...

Happy Fainting and the Book Bar

Monday: Days of Heaven (1978)           Bill is a laborer who loses his job at a factory. So he travels to the country. He travels with his little sister and his girlfriend Abby. Because it is the early 1900s he calls Abby his sister. It was frowned upon to live with a woman you weren't married to. They find work on a farm run by a single man. Bill finds out the farmer is dying. The farmer also has taken a liking to Abby. So Bill comes up with a plan to have Abby marry the farmer and then they will get the money when he dies. It doesn't go as planned. I thought this movie was alright. I didn't realize it was a Terrence Malick film till I was half way through it. I normally don't like his films. But this one wasn't too bad.  Tuesday: Big City (1948)         A cantor, a reverend, and a police officer find a baby on the streets. They can't find the parents. So they decide to raise the baby girl together. A judge approves it. But the f...
