Sedona Eats and the Widow

I went to some really good restaurants in Sedona. So I decided to write a little about each one.

Coffee Pot- This is a breakfast place with a menu that includes 101 omelettes. It is a little touristy but in a good way. The theme is the Southwest on overdrive. Every inch is decorated. The walls are painted like the rock formations Sedona is known for. I of course go an omelette. It had sausage, ham, cheese, mushrooms and tomatoes. My sides were sourdough toast and cottage cheese. It was really good. The service was fast and good.

Creekside American Bistro- We went here for dinner. The decor is modern with art framed on the walls. My mom and I shared the wedge salad. It was ok. After a certain point all the good stuff it gone and it's just romaine lettuce. I got the Bake Stuffed Chicken Breast. It is stuffed with herb cheese, roasted tomato and spinach. It was good, but not amazing. My mom got the Braised Short Rib. She liked it. Service was good.

Dahl and Di Luca- This was another dinner spot we went to. It is more on the fine dining side. It was very Italian. The walls were painted in the fresco style. There were chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and rock pillars. Maybe to give the feel of being in an Italian villa. There were also lots of dragonflies here and there. I got the lasagna. It was really good. My mom got a special that had shrimp and fish. She said it was one of the best meals she's had in a while. The service was great.

The Vault- We went here for lunch after our jeep tour. The decor is simple and modern. You have a great view of the rock formations from either their deck or big windows. I got their special of the day which was empanadas with a small salad. It was really good. That perfect balance of healthy and comfort food. My mom got tacos that she said were ok. The service was good.

Hideaway House- This was were we went for our last dinner in Sedona. It is decorated kinda like a country Italian home with lots of sunflowers. There is a two level deck that allows you to see the rock formations. By the time we got there it was dark and hot, so we sat inside. I got the Baked Meatball Parm. It came with the best fries I have had in a long time. The sandwich was also really good. My mom got the salmon which she liked. For dessert I got the chocolate mousse cake with a cookie crust. It was really good. The service was fine.

This is two weeks worth of movies.

Monday: Twentieth Century (1934)

Oscar is a famous theater playwright. He has discovered an actress who he renames Lily. Oscar works hard with Lily to make her a great actor. They become a success. Then Lily leaves for Hollywood where she becomes a star. Oscar falls on hard times. Years later they are on the same train. Oscar tries to get Lily to come back and be in his new play. I thought this movie was alright.

Tuesday: Please Don't Eat the Daisies (1960)

Kate lives with her four sons and husband in New York City. Her husband, Laurence, has become one of the most important theater critics. His first play to review upon reaching that status was written by a friend. Unfortunately it is horrible. Laurence has to be honest and writes a bad review. From then on he gets a reputation for being a harsh critic. Kate doesn't like what he is turning into. They had plans to move to the country. She finds a house that needs a lot of repairs. Laurence hates it. Kate does her best to fix the house and remind Laurence of who he was. I liked this movie.

Tuesday: Wish Dragon (2021)

Din is a boy living with his single mother in Shanghai. She does her best but can't always be there for him. Then he meets Li Na who is being raised by her single father. They become quick friends. They go on adventures and love dragons. Then Li Na's dad gets a better job and they move away. Ten years later Din is going to school and still living in the same place with his mom. Li Na is a model and is very wealthy. Din wants to see her again but can't get close to her. Then he is given a teapot that contains a magic dragon. He gets three wishes. Din just wants to reconnect with Li Na. This was a cute movie. It's a lot like Aladdin.

Wednesday: Murphy's Romance (1985)

Emma moves to Arizona with her son to open a ranch after her divorce. She struggles to get the ranch going. Emma becomes friends with the drugstore owner, Murphy. Murphy is an older widower known around their small town. He is involved in many town activities.  Their friendship starts to grow into something else when Emma's ex husband shows up and complicates things. This is a good movie. Although I don't like the age gap between Emma and Murphy.

Friday: Postcards from the Edge (1990)

Suzanne is an actress with a drug problem. After overdosing she is admitted to a rehab center by her mom. Her mom is Doris Mann a famous old Hollywood actress. Suzanne gets clean. Her next film is coming up. But the only way the movie's insurance company will let her work on it is if she has someone to watch her. So she has to move back in with her mom. They don't have the best relationship. Doris loves to be the center of attention and doesn't see how her lifestyle has affected Suzanne. Suzanne can be harsh. But they make it work and clearly still love and care for each other. I thought this was a good movie. It was written by Carrie Fisher, based on her book. It is based on her relationship with her mom Debbie Reynolds.

Saturday: Black Widow (2021)

The movie starts in the 90s when Natasha was a kid. She was living in Ohio with her parents and younger sister. One night they have to run away. We find out her parents are Russian agents of some kind and had stolen information. Then Natasha and her sister Yelena are taken away. They are taken to the Red Room and turned into assassins. Then the movie jumps to when Natasha is on the run after the Sokovia Accords. Yelena is in Europe and has just taken down a target. She is exposed to a gas that gets rid of the mind control chemicals in her brain. She is free. Yelena sends the gas vails to Natasha hoping she will help. Natasha does come. They reunite their family and fight to take down the Red Room. I thought this was a good movie.

Friday: No Other Choice (2025)         This is a Korean film. Man-su was let go after working at a paper factory for many years. He struggles to find a new job. Without his income his family has to start making cuts. It really starts to wear down on Man-su. There is a position at another paper factory. There are only a few men qualified for the job. Man-su realizes if he eliminates the competition he will get the job. So he eliminates them, permanently. I thought this movie was alright. Weird and violent. The acting is good. Saturday: Merrily We Roll Along (2025)          This is actually a broadway musical that they filmed. It shows the friendship of a lyricist, Frank, a playwright, Charley, and a writer, Mary. The plays starts in the mid 70s. Frank is a big shot in Hollywood. Mary comes to visit him after the success of his most recent movie. Their relationship is strained. He doesn't even talk to Charley anymore. From there the story...

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

King George III and the Abandoned Door

Friday: Fight or Flight (2025)       Lucas is a former secret service agent. He was stranded in Bangkok after a failed assignment. Later he receives a call from his ex who know works at a different agency. A target, only known as Ghost, is getting on a plane headed for the U.S. He is the only one close enough to get on the plane in time. Lucas has to find Ghost and bring them home. Soon he discovers the plane is filled with people wanting to kill both of them. Lucas has to protect Ghost. This movie was ok. Except for the two main actors, all the acting is bad. The writing is bad. It's like they thought they could just put in a bunch of swear words and not have to actually write dialogue. There are some fun moments. It's basically Bullet Train but on a plane. Just watch Bullet Train instead. Saturday: Suzume (2022)       Suzume is a teenage girl living in Japan. One day she meets a mysterious young man, Souta, who is looking for an abandoned place with...
