Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit at, to eat the take out. But there are no trash cans. So I had to take it home to throw away. Seems like that would be an easy thing to do to have a trash can outside.

Monday: The French Lieutenant's Woman (1981)

This movie follows two actors shooting a movie and it follows the story in the movie. In the movie they are filming Charles is a wealthy scientist who is getting engaged to a young woman. He is visiting her small costal town. While there he notices another woman named Sarah. There are rumors about Sarah. That she slept with a married French Lieutenant and is waiting for him to come back. She always seems to be sad. Charles becomes fascinated by her. They get along and she trusts him. They have an affair that changes everything. Sarah is not trustworthy. In real life Anna and Mike's life mirror what is happening in the movie. They are both married and have an affair. Mike falls for Anna hard and is ready to change everything to be with her, but she might not be ready to do the same. I liked this movie a lot. It was well done. Although the characters of Anna and Sarah are a little annoying.

Tuesday: Boom Town (1940)

Two men are trying to make it big in the oil business. Square John has some land but has no money for equipment. He agrees to work with Big John who will help get the equipment. Square John is trying to make enough money to propose to his childhood love. One night while in town Big John meets a woman who is new to town. They fall in love instantly and get married. That same night their site strikes oil. Square John comes to tell Big John. Then he sees the woman with him. It's his childhood love Betsy. Square John tries to act like it doesn't bother him. Big John hears of oil in Oklahoma and decides to go follow it. Square John ends up selling his land. They both strike it rich and then lose it all for years while bumping into each other. I thought this movie was alright. I mostly watched it because Spencer Tracy (Square John) is in it.

Wednesday: The Paleface (1948)

Calamity Jane is arrested. The government makes her a deal. If she goes on a mission for them they will clear her criminal record. She agrees. The mission is to join a wagon train and find out who is supplying weapons to the Native Americans. Her cover is a married woman traveling with her husband. But when her fake husband is killed she has to find a new one. A traveling dentist from the East Coast, "Painless" Peter, is working in town. She decides to marry him and use it as her cover. Peter is a klutz who knows nothing of living in the west. He has no fighting skills. Yet somehow he always ends up ok. They travel with the wagon train and discover who is supplying the weapons. This movie is ok. I watched it because Bob Hope is in it and I thought I should see another of his films. The Native Americans are very stereotyped and not portrayed well.

Friday: Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)

Hannah is a firefighter in Montana. She had gone through a traumatic event with a fire the year before. She is deemed unfit for regular duty so she sent to work in one of the towers. In Florida a man finds out assassins are after him. He had discovered something that showed that government officials in his area were corrupt. He takes off with his son Conner. They flee to Montana were his brother in law is a sheriff. Before they get there the assassins kill him. Conner survives and runs into the forest. Hannah finds him and agrees to help. The assassins are tracking him. They start a forest fire to distract the locals. Hannah and Conner have to run from them and survive the fire. This movie was better than I thought it would be. My favorite character is the sheriff's wife. She is awesome.

Saturday: The Woman in the Window (2021)

Anna is a child psychologist who is agoraphobic.  She spends a lot of her time watching her neighbors from her window. A new family moves across the street. They have a young teenage boy. One day the boy comes to visit. He is clearly troubled. Anna believes that his father is abusive. Later she meets his mom, Jane. They hit it off. A couple nights later she sees Jane killed. She calls the police. Anna had mixed her medications with alcohol. When trying to go to help Jane she is hit by a car. She wakes up surrounded by police and the husband. They tell her Jane is not dead. Another woman walks in. They say she is Jane. Anna is not convinced. She is determined to find out what really happened. I liked this movie. The twist was a little bit of let down. It just wasn't that exciting. It was clearly inspired by Rear Window. She even looks through a camera to watch her neighbors at one point.

Sunday: Double Feature- Danzon (1991) and Castle in the Sky (1986)

Danzon is a Mexican film set in the 50s about a woman named Julia. Julia is a middle aged woman who works as a switchboard operator. She loves to dance the Danzon. A couple weeks before a dance competition her dance partner disappears. She searches for him everywhere. Julie claims not to love him, she just likes him as a dance partner. One day she finds out that he was suspected to have committed a crime. He fled to avoid arrest. But they found who really did it and he doesn't know. Julia travels to Veracruz, where she thinks he might be, to find him. She searches all over. Julia meets a drag queen who agrees to help. They become fast friends. After being unsuccessful in finding him Julia has a fling with a younger man. The trip changes her life. I thought this was a good movie.

Castle in the Sky is a Studio Ghibli film. Pazu is a young boy working in a mining town. One night a girls falls from the sky. A crystal necklace seems to be keeping her afloat so she doesn't crash. When she wakes up Pazu finds out her name is Sheeta. She had been kidnapped and taken on a air balloon. Pirates had attacked the ship wanting the crystal. The kidnappers work with the military and want it too. She ran and fell overboard. Pazu and Sheeta discover that it is connected to a mysterious floating castle. Few have seen it but it is supposed to hold great riches and power. Sheeta is a descendant from the people who lived there. Pazu and Sheeta must race against the military and pirates to find the castle. This is a really good movie. It has been on my list for a long time, so it was nice to finally watch it.

Wolf and the Fake Fiancee

Friday: You. Me & Tuscany (2026)        Anna is a young woman who lost her passion for cooking after her mother passed. She's been housesitting, but it's not enough. One night she meets and Italian man, Matteo. They hit it off and he tells her about his empty villa in Italy that he never uses. Anna takes this as an invitation to use her pre-paid plane ticket and fly to Italy and stay at his empty villa. She gets caught by his family. They assume she is his fiancee and she goes along with it. Anna is introduced to the rest of the family, including Matteo's adopted brother Michael. Michael and Anna immediately hit it off, but can't do anything because she is engaged to his brother. When Matteo shows up things get even more complicated. I thought this movie was alright. It's cute and nice to have a new romantic comedy come out in theaters . It's just a little cheesy and over the top for me. Almost like a Hallmark movie or the like.  Saturday: The Bad Guys...

Grogu and the Friendly Neighbor

Friday: Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)         The Mandalorian (Mando) and Grogu are working for the New Republic. There are still many Imperial Warlords out there even if the Empire has fallen. Their new assignment is to find a warlord who is dangerous but not much is known about him. The Hutts have information on him. They will give it to Mando if he can rescue their nephew, Rotta. Rotta has been kidnapped and made to fight in nightly cage matches. Mando and Grogu set out to rescue him, but much more is at play than they knew. I thought this movie was good. It's a stand alone adventure. So if you haven't watched the tv series you'll be ok. Wish I had known that before I gave me parents (who went with me) a recap of all three seasons. Oh well. They still enjoyed it. Grogu is so cute. And that's all the matters. Saturday: WarGames (1983)          David is an intelligent teen who is great with computers. While trying to get ...
