Tuesday: A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)
Lloyd is a magazine writer with a tough reputation. He gets assigned a fluff piece on Fred Rogers. He thinks it is beneath him, but he has no choice. Lloyd gets an interview with Fred. He doesn't know what to make of Fred. Fred is very nice and busy with his show. Lloyd struggles to write the piece. He wants to go further and learn more about the real Fred. But Fred doesn't say much about himself. Lloyd also struggles with his relationship with his father. Fred takes a liking to Lloyd and ends up helping him. This is a good movie. It is really well done. They treat it like it is an episode of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. The scenery is models like the TV show. So you see a model of New York City or Lloyd's apartment building before going in closer. I thought it was a cool concept. Also I learned online that Tom Hanks is actually related to Fred Rogers.
Wednesday: Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Jojo is a young boy living in Germany during WWII. He dreams of being a Nazi. His imaginary friend is Hitler. He goes to a camp to train to become a Nazi. After an accident he is sent home. His father is at war. His mom takes care of him. One day when his mom is out he discovers that there is a Jewish girl living in the walls. His mother is protecting her. He has been told by others that Jewish people are horrible monsters. Slowly he starts to doubt if that's true. This is such a good movie. It is mostly satire, but there are some serious moments being that it is set in WWII. Even with all that is going on it is still fun.
Thursday: Frozen II (2019)
In flashbacks we learn of a forest that has magical spirits living in it. They lend their magic to the people who lived there. Arendelle had a good relationship with the people who lived there but something goes wrong. The forest is trapped in fog. In the present Elsa is hearing a voice calling to her. She knows that she has to go see what it is. Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven join her. They are able to get into the forest. Elsa learns more about her family and her magic. I liked this movie.
Sunday: The Uninvited (1944)
Roderick and Pamela are siblings on vacation on the coast of England. They discovers a beautiful old house. They decide to buy it without learning anything about it. Soon after they learn that it has been known to have disturbances. The previous owner's daughter fell off the cliff by the house and died. At night they hear a woman crying but there is no one there. There are cold spots, candles flickering, and the pets won't go upstairs. Roderick gets close to the previous owner's granddaughter, Stella. They learn that Stella's father was a painter. He mostly painted his wife. But he had a model that he painted. The model was also his mistress. The relationship between the wife and mistress was complicated. It is clear that the spirits want Stella at the house. It is not safe for her. Everyone works to keep her safe and get rid of the ghosts. I liked this movie. It has some spooky elements, but I didn't find it that scary.
