Donut Ice Cream Sandwich and the Case Against Evolution

I found the next restaurant on my way to the CineMagic theater when I was volunteering for PIFF. I drove by it and thought it looked cool. It is a Venezuelan place called Teote. It is on SE 12th Ave. It is the kind of place where you order than find a table. There are some tables when you walk in but most are upstairs. There are latin america decorations. It also has the feel of a place that would be by the beach. There is a large indoor dining area. Also there is a big outdoor patio area, which is were we sat. It has a tin shed feel. There is a metal and clear plastic roof. The tables are picnic bench style. So you will probably end up sharing your table with someone. There is a fire pit in the center with blue rocks instead of wood or coal. Parts of the wall are made of doors. I got the smoky pollo arepas. I have wanted to try arepas for a while. Not going to lie it is because I saw them on Jane the Virgin  and they looked so good. What I got wasn't what I expected ...

Bruce Springsteen and the German Resistance

Tuesday: Words and Music (1948)      This is inspired by a real songwriting pair. Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart (Mickey Rooney) were famous songwriters. In the movie we see their journey from the beginning. Richard is a musician looking for someone to write lyrics for his music. A friend introduces him to Lorenz. Lorenz is always late and all over the place. But he write great songs. They are able to work together. They struggle to get anyone to buy their songs. Then they get into Broadway musicals and become a huge success. Lorenz falls for a singer. She likes him but not in that way. After her rejection he is never the same again. They continue to go on and do great work but his heart is never fully in it. Richard falls in love with a young woman who is the sister of a friend. They support Lorenz who's health starts to fail. I liked this movie. There were some good musical numbers. As always I am impressed by Mickey Rooney's energy. He always seems to be bouncing off...

Bacon Wrapped Dates and the Hollywood Stuntman

The restaurant we went to this week is Chameleon. It is on NE 40th Ave. The sign outside is cool, antique looking with a chameleon.  It is a little fancier than I was expecting. The prices are kind of high. Although the decor doesn't quite match that. It seems a little run down. We sat in the sun room which was nice. The outdoor patio area is beautiful. There are hanging lanterns and streamers. It is surrounded by different kinds of flowers. The food is Asian/European fusion. There is a spring roll appetizers as well as steak and lamb on the menu.  We got the grilled dates appetizer. It is wrapped in bacon. It was so good. But it is one per person so you have to tell them if you want more than one each. I got rice fettuccine. There are bright orange flower petals on top as the garnish. Which was something I hadn't seen before. The noodles were made of rice. For some reason I was thinking it was the sauce on actual rice. It was good either way. It al...

Lipstick Killer and the Sad Trip to China

Tuesday: Double Dynamite (1951)        Johnny works at a bank with his girlfriend Mibs. They want to get married but he wants to be making more money before they do. He is passed over for a promotion. One day Johnny saves the life of a leader of a gang. The leader wants to repay Johnny. So he gives Johnny money and then bets the money for him. Johnny ends up winning a lot of money. Enough to get married and then some. But no one believes his story about winning it from a bet. Mibs thinks he is just making it up. His friend Emile thinks he stole it from the bank. On the same day Johnny wins the money there is a huge discrepancy at the bank. The bank manager believes it was one of the employees who stole it. Johnny gets help from Emile to hid the money he won and tries not to get caught. I liked this movie ok. It was entertaining. Emile is played by Groucho Marx. He does not have his iconic eyebrows so it took be a minute to recognize him. He still does his eye roll. ...
