The next place on my list was Frank's Noodle House. We went to the location on NE Broadway. It is in an old house in a busy area. There is minimal decorations. Just some small paintings on the walls and things like that. It was amusing to see tennis balls on the bottom of all the chair legs. I guess to prevent the floor from being scratched up. Also the whole place seemed to be vibrating. Like you were on a Disneyland ride or something. I'm guessing it was the generator. You get free soup. Also you get some radish and kimchi. The kimchi is to help you gauge how much spiciness you can take. We got some dumplings. I got the noodles with pork belly. My sister got a vegetable noodle soup. The dumplings were ok. I liked the noodles. I got the lowest spiciness that you could get and it was fine. I did my best to use chopsticks. But the noodles are thick and long, and I gave up and used a fork near the end. The service was very fast. We ordered and in about 5 minutes our food came out. All the people working there were very nice.
Monday: Central Park (1932)
Rick is a homeless man living in Central Park. He meets Dot who is also living in the park. They quickly fall for each other. Men pretending to be police hire Dot to work a charity event. The event centers around finding the prettiest woman on 5th avenue. She then will open the box of donations and give it to the poor. The men are really gangsters. They plan on switching out the winning woman for Dot so she can get close to the money. They will then take it from her. Rick figures this out and tries to save the day. This movie was ok. Mostly it was just interesting to see New York in the 30s.
Tuesday: The Thing from Another World (1951)
An air force captain, Patrick, is working on a base in the arctic. He and his men are called up to an outpost closer to the north pole. The scientists up there have encountered something strange. A huge object crashed into a nearby lake. They go to investigate and find a spaceship. They accidentally blow up the ship but are able to retrieve an alien body. The men take it back to the outpost. They plan to keep watch until they get orders from their general. But the alien wakes up and gets loose. The alien is like a vegetable alien frankenstein that lives on blood. I liked this movie a lot. It is a classic sci-fi film.
Wednesday: It's a Wonderful World (1939)
Guy is a private investigator hired to keep an eye on a business man, Willie, and keep him out of trouble. Willie gets framed for a murder. Guy hides him while he works to prove that Willie didn't do it. But they are found and both arrested. On the way to prison Guy finds a clue that could solve the case. He escapes and ends up kidnapping a female poet. They go on the run while he works to prove both his and Willie's innocence. Naturally Guy and the poet fall for each other. I liked this movie. It was good.
Thursday: 20th Century Women (2016)
This movie is about an older single mother raising her teenage son in the late 70s. They live in a big run down house with two other tenants. One is a carpenter named William and the other is a photographer named Abbie. The mom, Dorothea, is worried her son won't know how to be a man with just her raising him. So she asks Abbie and his friend Julie to help raise him. They all struggle with being comfortable with who they are. This movie is ok. The mom is kind of annoying. She is strict yet ok with him doing what he wants. She wants help but not if it goes against her opinions. She asks these young women to help with her son but doesn't like anything they are doing. Yet doesn't tell them what she does want.
Friday: Lion King (2019)
Like the new Aladdin movie I'm sure everyone already knows the story. So I'm not going to summarize it. I think they did a really good job. The animation was amazing. They looked like real animals. I loved all the lions! Especially the babies. As is the trend with the new Disney movies the female characters have a bigger role. The female hyena is actually in charge of all the hyenas. Scar comes to her for help in building an army. In the final battle Nala and the female hyena fight each other in almost a big of a fight as Scar and Simba. Also I liked the pretty much all the voice actors are black.
Sunday: Hellboy (2019)
This a prequel to the other Hellboy movies. Or at least that's how it seemed to me. We see Hellboy when he is just starting out fighting supernatural forces. In flashbacks we learn that there was a powerful witch named Nimue. She wants to let all the supernatural creatures be free and she wants to rule the world. She is powerful and dangerous. King Arthur and his knights work to bring her down. She can't be killed even by excalibur. So they cut her up into pieces and bury the pieces all over England. Back in the present Gruagach, a pig creature, seeks revenge on Hellboy. He finds all of Nimue's parts and puts her back together. He hopes she will help him get his revenge. Nimue plans to spread a plague killing all the humans and letting the creatures have the earth for themselves. There is a prophecy that Hellboy will bring the apocalypse. Many want to kill him to prevent this. But he is also the only one who can stop Nimue. He works with a young woman who can talk to ghosts and an agent to take down Nimue. I liked this movie ok. It was entertaining. It was more violent and gory than the other Hellboy movies. I like the originals better.
