Monday: Bullitt (1968)
Bullitt is a cop who is tasked with protecting a witness for an upcoming trail against a mob organization. The witness is the brother of the head of the mob. He is going to snitch on them. An up and coming politician/lawyer needs this case to go well so he can move up in the politics world. When the witness is killed Bullitt realizes there is more going on than he was told. He needs to find the leader of the mob and end this. I liked the movie ok. The music was kind of weird. There would only sometimes be music. Usually in a car chase or something like that. It sounded like the Pink Panther theme song. There were some random disjointed moments with Bullitt and his girlfriend. They didn't add to the plot at all. It took away from the rest of the movie. They should have just cut those scenes.
Tuesday: Double Feature- The Perfect Date (2019) and The Last Picture Show (1971)
The Perfect Date is about a teenage boy named Brooks. He is a senior in high school and determined to go to Yale. He has all the right things to get him into college, clubs and all that but he is struggling with his essay. He's not sure who he is yet. Brooks agrees to be paid to take a classmate's cousin, Celia, to a school formal. There he sees a beautiful girl that he likes. He also gets the idea to launch an app that let's girls decide what they want him to be on their date. Most of these dates are for dances and family occasions so they aren't by themselves. He becomes a cowboy, art expert, walking companion and more. The money will go towards college. He forms a friendship with Celia. He still wants the beautiful girl he saw at the dance, while not realizing what is right in front of him. This was a cute movie. Entertaining but not great.
The Last Picture Show is about teens living in a small Texas town. They do what they can to entertain themselves. The local hotspots are a diner, a picture house, and a pool hall. Sonny has a crush on his friend's girlfriend even though he has a girlfriend. He is bored with his girlfriend. He ends up starting an affair with his coach's wife. His friend, Duane, loves his girlfriend. But she is bored and takes her mother's lead and want to cheat on Duane. Their town is failing and many of them feel stuck with nothing to do. I liked this movie ok. It was made in the 70s so I'm not sure why it was made in black and white. I guess they were trying to be artistic. Not sure that it worked.
Friday: Avengers: Endgame (2019)
We find the remaining avengers struggling to deal with the aftermath of the snap. It jumps forward five years and not much has gotten better. Ant Man finds them and tells them his idea for getting them back. They hope it will work. I can't really say much more without giving anything away for those who haven't seen it. It is really good. It is a good way to end this part of the MCU chapter. Also there is no end credit.
Saturday: The Madness of King George (1994)
This movie is about King George III. He is dealing with the loss of America. He becomes sick and goes crazy. Members of parliament persuade his oldest son, the Prince of Wales, to fight for regency while his father his sick. The Prime Minster, Pitt, does his best to protect the king. He hires many doctors until he finds former priest who has a method to make the king well again. I liked this movie. It was interesting to learn about King George III and England's side of things after they lost America.
