World's Best Fish and Chips and the Crazy Aunt

The next place on my list is a food cart called The Original Halibuts. They have an actual restaurant location too. It was located at the Piedmont Station Food Carts on Killingsworth. It was a gas station before it hosted food carts. It's nice because there is plenty of seating, indoor and outdoor. And there are bathrooms. At The Original Halibuts I got the Alaskan Halibut fish and chips. It was the best fish and chips I have ever had. The fish was so good. The french fries were nicely seasoned. Also the people running the truck are very nice. I would go back there for sure. For the last 6 years I have volunteered at the Portland International Film Festival. The first two films are from that. Tuesday: The Dead and the Others (2018)       This movie is from Brazil. It is about a indigenous teenager living in a small village. His father died. He has a dream that his dad is by a waterfall. So he goes to the waterfall and his dad's ghost...

Captain Marvel and the Sappy Romance

No restaurant because I was on vacation. Monday: Show Boat (1951)         This movie is about a traveling show boat. They stop in different towns and hold a variety show. The main character is Magnolia who is the daughter of the owner of the company. She starts out behind stage. She meets a gambling actor who discovers she is a very talented singer. Then her friend Julie is prosecuted by the police in a town because she is black and is dating a white man. They must leave. So Magnolia and the gambler take over as the leads. They fall in love. She marries him against the advice of her loved ones. They leave the boat. Soon she realizes that his gambling is costing them everything and she leaves him. I liked this movie alright. There are some really good songs. I have seen the 1936 version. I admit one of the reasons I like this one better is because it is in color. The actress who plays Julie is white. They just made her look tan. I don't like that. Especially becaus...

Sprinkles and the Wartime Love

This week's restaurant was The Roxy. It is a 24 hour diner. They serve breakfast all day. I'm sure it can get very interesting early in the morning after all the bars have closed. We went at lunch on a Sunday. There was still a decent amount of people in there. It is next to a gay bar, and has decor and things that tie into that. The decorations are very unique. There are barbie dolls dressed as movie stars, leopard print chairs, movie posters, and more. The menu is funny. It is worth reading the whole thing. The service is really friendly. I ordered The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, which is chicken fried steak with eggs and hash browns. It also came with a really good biscuit. The whole meal was good. My sister got Scooby Snax, which is tator tots with cheese and gravy. She also got an Italian soda with sprinkles. She would like everyone to know how much she enjoyed the sprinkles. Also they had a digital juke box. I had not seen one before. They can have any song you want...
