Artistic Mechanic and the Racing Dog

Tuesday: Sayonara (1957)        Lloyd is a major in the air force. He is reassigned to Kobe, Japan. Many men stationed there are marrying Japanese women. Lloyd doesn't believe it is right. Most agree with him. Then one of his friends, Joe, says he is going to marry a Japanese woman. Lloyd tries to talk him out of it. But Joe refuses to give in. Lloyd ends up going to the wedding. His opinion starts to change. Later he sees a performance at a theater and falls for the lead performer. She is stubborn and doesn't take an interest in him at first. Soon she can't resist him any longer. They have to hide their relationship. Tensions grow between Americans and the Japanese. Neither side wants biracial couples. I thought this movie was alright. Pretty provocative for the time. The actress who played Joe's wife was the first Asian woman to win an Oscar for her role in this movie. Friday: Arthur the King (2024)           This is based on a true st...

Finally they are free of Bligh. Most return to Tahiti. But Bligh doesn't give up so easily. I thought this movie was alright. I feel like I've seen it before but couldn't be certain. I haven't written about it on this blog.  Wednesday: The Naked City (1948)        Jean, a young model, is found murdered in her apartment. Migrating Ducks and the Prophecy

Monday: Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont (2005)       Mrs. Palfrey is left at a retirement home in London by her family. It is not at the level of luxury she's used to. But eventually she does get used to it. Still she gets rather lonely. She has a grandson who lives in London, but he never returns her calls. After taking a fall Mrs. Palfrey is rescued by a young writer named Ludo. They become friends. He becomes more of a grandson to her than her own grandson. They keep each other company and make each other's lives better. I thought this movie was alright.
