 Tuesday: The House of the Seven Gables (1940)        The Pyncheon family was cursed after they stole land from another family. They continue to fail and struggle to keep their wealth. One hundred and sixty years later the family is still struggling. Clifford, the eldest son, has convinced his father that it is finally time to sell the mansion they live in. He plans to move to New York with his fiancee, Hepzibah. Clifford and his father ask Jaffery, the youngest, to come home. When he learns the news he is upset. He wants to keep the mansion, believing deeds and treasure are hidden in the walls. After their father dies of a heart attack he claims it was Clifford who murdered their father. Clifford is sent to prison. Hepzibah waits for him to be released and tries to help secure the family fortune. I thought this movie was ok. Friday: Mars Attacks!  Monday: Escape From New York (1981)      Manhattan was turned into a maximum security prison in the 80s. It's where the whole country sends criminals sentenced to prison. In 1997 Air Force One crash lands there after being hijacked. The president is being held hostage. Snake Plissken, a former agent turned criminal, has just arrived to start his sentence. The warden decides to use Snake to find the president. Snake will be released if he is able to bring the president back safely. I thought this movie was ok. It's an interesting concept having all of Manhattan be a prison. It is a very macho movie. Tuesday: Torch Song Trilogy (1988)       This movie is set in the 70s in New York City. Arnold is a drag queen. He loves to perform. There is a constant struggle with the relationships in his life. He doesn't get along with his family. His dating life isn't great either. Like when I went to Sedona, here is a short review of places I ate at in Springdale, Utah. Whiptail Grill- This is a Mexican restaurant in what used to be a gas station. The decor is simple. An art piece of license plates and a giant Texaco sign. I got some good enchiladas. My mom got shrimp tacos several times over the trip. She said the ones she got at Whiptail where the best. Bit & Spir- It is a Mexican fusion restaurant. It is very colorful. There are lots of big paintings inside. There is lots of outside seating. Some on the deck, but most is in the back on the lawn. There are colorful lights hung across the back area. They look like solo cups, but they could be cans. It looks nice. It was loud inside where we sat. I got the rosemarino pasta with a rosemary cream sauce. There was also good rosemary garlic bread. Overall it was good. I just wasn't the biggest fan of the sun dried tomatoes in the pasta.  Friday: Flora and Son (2023)     Flora is a young single mother. She struggles to get along with her 14 year old son Max. Her ex, who used to be in a band, is little help. Max is constantly getting in trouble. He has a case manager who is running out of options from keeping him out of jail. One day Flora finds a guitar. She gives it to Max thinking music will be a way to keep him occupied and off the streets. He rejects it. So Flora decides to take guitar lessons herself. She finds an American man, Jeff, who does lessons online. Flora starts to really get into her lessons. Then she learns that her son it making music on his computer. He is really good.
