Friday: Rental Family (2025)
Phillip is an American actor living in Japan. He is struggling to find work. Then he gets an opportunity for a job at a rental family agency. The people who work there play roles in peoples lives. If people need a friend, a wedding guest, a father, etc. Phillip is unsure at first if this job is the right fit for him. One of his first roles is a father to a little girl. He is needed because both parents must go to an interview to get the girl into a good school. Her real father is not part of her life at all. He is reluctant at first about pretending to be her father. But soon he starts to care for her. Phillip finds this job more fulfilling than traditional acting jobs. I thought this movie was really good. Some moments were a little strained, but other than that it was good.
Saturday: Steve (2025)
Steve is the head teacher at a reform school. They help teen boys deemed too dangerous or unruly for other schools. Steve learns they are going to lose their funding and have to close the school. He has to deal with this on top of his mental health problems. A student at the school, Shy, is also dealing with a lot. His violent ways are making others turn away from him. He's not sure what his future holds or how to deal with his issues. This movie was alright.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Friday: Eternity (2025)
Larry and Joan are an old couple. They die within a week of each other. They wake up in the afterlife at a junction. The couple has to decide where they want to spend the rest of eternity. This is made more complicated when Joan discovers her first husband, Luke, has been waiting for her for 67 years. Now not only does she have to decide where to spend eternity, she has to decide with which husband. I thought this movie was good. A very unique story.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Monday: Jingle Bell Heist (2025)
A young American woman, Sophia, is working at a department store in London. She's also a petty thief. Nick, who recently installed the security system for the store, catches her on camera stealing from the store. He confronts her and tries to blackmail her into helping him rob the store. In the end she agrees. They both have good reasons for wanting to rob the store. Mostly to do with the horrible store manager. This movie was alright. Not the best. But better than a lot of other cheesy Christmas movies.
Friday: Zootopia 2 (2025)
Judy and Nick are now police officer partners. They struggle to work together. Then a new case comes their way. A snake has appeared in Zootopia. No one has seen a snake in a long time. Somehow this snake is tied to the lynx family who invented the weather wall. As well as the expansion of one of the territories. They have to find out what is really going on and save the city. I thought this movie was really good. It's so clever. Lots of fun references.
Saturday: A Very Jonas Christmas Movie (2025)
The Jonas Brothers have just finished a leg of their tour in London. They are all headed home to spend Christmas with their families. Joe has a chance encounter with Santa. Santa sees how disconnected and miserable the brothers are. So he places a spell on them. They won't be able to go home until they truly reconnect. So begins a series of misfortunes taking them all across Europe. Their attempts to get home are thwarted at every turn. This movie is good. It's definitely cheesy and corny. But it's a lot of fun. Also helps if you're a fan of the brothers in real life. Or a somewhat former fan like me.
