Detective Blanc and the True Heroes of Christmas

Friday: Hamnet (2025)        As a young man William Shakespeare becomes a Latin tutor for a family. He falls for the oldest daughter, Agnes. She is wild and intelligent. Soon she falls for him too and they get married. They struggle but find happiness. They have three children. The youngest being twins, Hamnet and Judith. At the same time William is living in London and getting his plays put on stage. Then both Hamnet and Judith get gravely ill. Hamnet dies. Both William and Agnes struggle with their grief. William channels it into a new play, Hamlet. I thought this movie was alright. The acting is good. The little boy who is Hamnet is so cute. Found out later he is real life brothers with the actor who plays Hamlet (well the actor who play the actor who plays Hamlet). There are just a lot of unnecessary uncomfortable moments. Just weird. I have seen other movies by this director and they are similarly weird. May avoid seeing her movies in the future. Saturday:...

Gary and the Rented Father

Friday: Rental Family (2025)       Phillip is an American actor living in Japan. He is struggling to find work. Then he gets an opportunity for a job at a rental family agency. The people who work there play roles in peoples lives. If people need a friend, a wedding guest, a father, etc. Phillip is unsure at first if this job is the right fit for him. One of his first roles is a father to a little girl. He is needed because both parents must go to an interview to get the girl into a good school. Her real father is not part of her life at all. He is reluctant at first about pretending to be her father. But soon he starts to care for her. Phillip finds this job more fulfilling than traditional acting jobs. I thought this movie was really good. Some moments were a little strained, but other than that it was good. Saturday: Steve (2025)        Steve is the head teacher at a reform school. They help teen boys deemed too dangerous or unruly for other s...
