Betrayed Father and the Comic Book Obsessed Author

 Tuesday: Artists and Models (1955)

Rick and Eugene are roommates. Rick is an artist. Eugene is a child book author who is obsessed with comic books. They struggle to find work. Eugene's obsession is usually what ends up getting them fired. He's not paying attention and messes everything up. Then they discover that the writer, Abby, of Eugene's favorite comic book, Bat Lady, lives just upstairs. Rick falls for Abby. The model Abby uses for Bat Lady, Bessie, believes Eugene is her soulmate because her horoscope told her so. They all struggle to get along. Rick gets picked up by the comic book publisher that Abby worked for to write a comic book. He gets the idea for the comic from Eugene's dreams. Little does he know how much trouble it will get him in. I thought this movie was alright. It is a fun slapstick comedy. Jerry Lewis is Eugene and Dean Martin is Rick. I didn't know they used to have an act together and also did so many movies together. When I think of Dean Martin I don't really think of comedy. I think of a smooth talker with an amazing voice.

Friday: Love Hurts (2025)

Marvin is a real estate agent who loves his job. One day he receives a message from someone from his past. He has been in hiding from his crime lord brother after failing to kill Rose. Rose had stolen from the brother. Now she is back and wanting revenge. Marvin struggles to hold onto his new life as he is targeted by men who work for his brother. He has to deal with his past and try to deal with Rose. This movie was ok. I wanted it to be better. It seemed like a fun action film from the trailer. I like the lead actor Ke Huy Quan. It just wasn't very good. The script was bad. It just didn't live up to it's potential. Also it's hard to believe a romance between Marvin and Rose. There was no chemistry. What I did like was the little The Goonies reunion. Marvin's boss is played by Sean Astin who was in that movie with Ke (Marvin) when they were kids.

Saturday: Anora (2024)

An escort named Anora (or Ani) is requested at the club she works at because she speaks Russian. She dances for a young Russian man, Ivan, who is from a very wealthy family. His parents are also very dangerous and powerful. Ivan really likes Ani and hires her to come to his house. After a couple visits he wants her to stay for the week. Ani can't believe her luck. This wealthy guy wants to pay her a lot of money and she gets to spend time in a huge mansion. She really starts to like him. They party a lot. On a spontaneous trip to Vegas they decide to get married. Soon after Ivan's parents find out and are not happy. They send men who work for them to get Ivan and Ani to get a divorce. After Ivan runs away Ani is forced to help look for him so they can get a divorce. I thought this movie was ok. It's one of those movies that I missed in theaters. But people keep saying how good it is. And I have to wait to be able to rent it. So I build up this hype for it in my head, and then end up not really liking it at all. It's 90% partying, yelling, and fighting. I don't get how it was nominated for any awards. So far I haven't really liked any of the Best Picture nominees.

Sunday: Ran (1985)

This is a Japanese film set in medieval times. Hidetora is an aging warlord. He decides to step down and makes the eldest of his three sons the new leader. But he wants to keep his title and ranking. His sons argue about his decision. They don't think it's right. He gets very upset. So upset he ends up banishing his youngest. Hidetora soon regrets his decision. He is to live in the tower near the castle where his eldest, Taro, now rules. Taro, under advisement from his wife, casts out his father. Hidetora tries to go to his second son, but he follows Taro's orders and casts out their father as well. Hidetora is left with no home. Soon a plot arises to gain control of the castles and land. This movie is alright.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

He will get Dan and the four women onto Bob Crosby's TV show. And he will get their friends at the local deli to put up the money for it. The group is excited. They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie.
