Ancestors and the PG Spray

 Friday: Piece by Piece (2024)

This is a music documentary but done in Lego. It is about the singer and producer Pharrell Williams. He grew up in Virginia Beach. Pharrell always loved music. He also has chromethesia, meaning he can see colors when he hears music. In high school he started a band called The Neptunes. Later a record label opened in his town. He got his start there. He became a producer first. Working with musicians like Jay-Z, Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg, and more. Later he was able to perform his own songs. Pharrell's fame and success has had highs and lows, but he's finally in a better place. I thought this movie was alright. It was interesting to learn about him. It's a unique way to tell his story, in Lego. Technically it's a kids movie too. I don't think a lot of the parents knew what they were taking their kids to see. My favorite part was when he first meets Snoop Dogg an assistant sprays "PG Spray". Which looks a lot like smoke. If you know anything about Snoop Dogg you can guess what that was meant to be.

Saturday: From Time to Time (2009)

Tolly is a teenage boy who goes to stay with his grandma in the English countryside near the end of WWII. His mother sent him there so she can focus on searching for any news of his father, who was fighting in the war. He isn't sure at first about staying with his grandma because she didn't approve of her son marrying his mom. Soon he learns about some of his ancestors and a mystery surrounding them. He is also able to see their ghosts, talk with them, and sometimes see moments of the past. In the early 1800s Colonel Oldknow lived there with his non English wife. They have a son, Sefton, and a daughter, Susan, who is blind. The colonel returns one day with a black boy who was a stowaway on his ship. He brought the boy, Jacob, home to be Susan's companion and guide. His wife and son aren't happy about this. Tensions rise. The wife wants to make a name for herself. There is a fire and not much is known about what happened. Sorry it's a little confusing to explain. This movie was alright.

Sunday: The Red House (1947)

A teenage girl, Meg, was adopted by Pete and his sister, Ellen, when she was a baby. She doesn't know much about her parents. At the request of Ellen, Meg brings by a boy from school, Nath, to see if he would be interested in helping on their farm. There is a lot of talk about Pete and his sister. Nath is curious and agrees to help. On his first night he tries to take a short cut through the woods to go home. Pete warns him it's too dangerous and to not go near the red house. Nath goes anyways but doesn't get far and runs back scared. Even then he is still curious about the woods and the red house. Meg has always wanted to know about it. So even though Pete forbids it they look for the house. The two teens try to uncover the secret Pete and Ellen are trying to cover up. I thought this movie was alright. Overly dramatic. Almost like a melodrama.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

Monday: Two Tickets to Broadway (1951)        Nancy is the star of her small town. She wants to be on Broadway. On her way to New York City she meets three woman who's agent is unreliable. Once in the city she meets another Broadway hopeful, Dan. None of them are having luck getting work. The women's and Dan's agent, Lew, comes up with an idea. He will get Dan and the four women onto Bob Crosby's TV show. And he will get their friends at the local deli to put up the money for it. The group is excited. They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie. It is fun. Tuesday: Paper Moon (1973)         Addie is a young girl who's mother passed away.
