Godzilla and the Unfrozen Alien

 Thursday: Man Up (2015)

Nancy has struggled to find love. She struggles in most areas of her life. One day she is returning home from a trip and accidentally gets mistaken for a man's blind date. The man, Jack, right off seems a lot like Nancy. So she pretends to be his blind date. They have a great first date. Jack seems perfect for her. Pretending to be his blind date will only work for so long. I thought this movie was alright. It's cute. I just didn't like all of the humor.

Friday: The Thing (1982)

A group of scientist are stationed in Antarctica for a research project. They have a strange encounter with some Norwegians from another research facility nearby. The Norwegians come flying in a helicopter trying to shoot a dog. They end up dying and wreck the helicopter. A pilot, Macready, and others go to the other facility to see what is going on. They find that the Norwegians had dug up something from the ice. They begin to find out it is a shapeshifting alien that is out to kill everything in its path. This movie is good. I've seen The Thing from Another World from 1951. The storylines are very similar. This one is far more gruesome. Although being made in the 80s it is pretty fake.

Sunday: Godzilla Minus One (2023)

This is a Japanese movie. Koichi is a pilot in WWII. He has just been made a kamikaze pilot even though it is clear what direction the war is going in. Koichi fakes a fault in his plane and lands on an island outpost. A monster the locals call Godzilla crawls out of the ocean and kills everyone but Koichi and one other. His inability to shoot it adds further shame. He returns home to find it all destroyed. He does his best to move on with his life. Unexpectedly he takes in a young woman and a baby. They build a life together. Koichi gets a job clearing underwater mines. Soon he hears that Godzilla is back and making its way to Tokyo. It has grown in both size and power. He works with others to bring it down. I thought this movie was good. It's not your typical monster movie. It's more like a post WWII film where their next challenge just happens to be Godzilla. It was really well made. I like how they designed Godzilla. It looks similar to the one from the original 1954 film. Even some of the movements are the same. You could imagine it was stop motion or a puppet. Although I guess in the original it was a man in a suit.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

He will get Dan and the four women onto Bob Crosby's TV show. And he will get their friends at the local deli to put up the money for it. The group is excited. They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie.
