Noa and the Tuatara

 Tuesday: Shirley (2024)

This is based on a true story. Shirley Chisholm started her career as a teacher. Then she became the first black Congresswoman. In 1972 she decided to run for president. She struggled to get endorsements and delegates. She was determined to be elected. No matter what obstacles she faced she kept going. Even if the result is not what she wanted. I thought this movie was alright. It was interesting to learn about her.

Wednesday: Miller's Girl (2024)

Cairo is a high school senior. She lives on her own in a grand manor. She reads all the time and is a writer. Her friend, Winnie, convinces her to take a creative writing class with Mr. Miller. Mr. Miller is one hit wonder author who became a teacher. Winnie convinces Cairo that Mr. Miller likes her and that she should pursue him.  Cairo is reluctant at first but then it becomes clear they both have feelings for each other. Mr. Miller gives her a writing assignment. She takes it too far and crosses the line. It changes both their lives. This movie was alright.

Another dangerous clan is searching for her. They track her to Noa's clan. Many are killed and the rest are kidnapped. Noa was left for dead. He survived. Now he must find his clan and rescue them. Along the way he meets an orangutan who believes in Caesar's teachings. What he tells Noa changes everything he thought he knew of the past. The human girl catches up with them. Saturday: Turtles All the Way Down (2024)

Aza is a teenager with OCD. She's constantly worried about being infected. She often gets lost in her thought spirals. Her best friend, Daisy, is very supportive of her. One day they find out that the father of her childhood friend, who is a billionaire, has gone missing. There is a reward. Daisy convinces Aza to work with her to solve the mystery. They find out the father had left most of his money to tuatara lizard research. Aza runs into the childhood friend, Davis, while searching. They reconnect and soon start dating. But her OCD prevents her from really being with him. She has many struggles before she gets better. This movie was alright. I read the book it's based on. I thought they did a good job with it.

Sunday: Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)

This is a French film. It takes place in the late 1700s. Marianne is hired to paint the portrait of a young woman, Heloise. The portrait will be sent to her suitor. If he likes it she will marry him. Heloise's mother tells Marianne that Heloise has refused to do the portrait because she refuses the marriage. So she wants Marianne to pretend to be Heloise's walking partner and observe her. Then paint in secret. Heloise is guarded. Marianne slowly gets her to relax and open up. The more time they spend together the more they realize they have feelings for one another. They have a short romance that cannot last. I thought this movie was alright. A little slow.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...
