Bad Bears and the Stuntman

 Tuesday: Bad News Bears (1976)

Morris played minor league baseball in his youth. Now he is an aging drunk who cleans pools. He gets talked into coaching a little league boys team. Morris doesn't really care how well they do, as long as he gets paid he's content. Soon his competitive side comes back. He starts to really coach the team. They still aren't doing very well. He brings in his ex-girlfriend's daughter, Amanda, to be the pitcher. With her help they may have a chance to advance in the league. Morris just has to remember it's about the kids and not his own agenda. I thought this movie was good.

Wednesday: Portrait of Jennie (1948)

This movie is set during the depression in New York.  Eben is a struggling artist. He has talent but hasn't found inspiration. One day he meets a young girl in the park. Her name is Jennie. She has a strange quality to her that draws him in. She talks to him like she knows him already. Jennie says things that don't quite add up. Like talking about a theater that's not there anymore. She also keeps asking Eben to wait for her to grow up. That she'll do it as fast as she can. Then she's gone into the fog. Immediately Eben wants to draw her. The drawing sells and he knows he's found his muse. It is hard to track her down. Every time he sees her she's a little bit older. Eben is desperate to paint her and solve the mystery surrounding her. This movie was alright. There were some interesting shots where scenes were projected on canvas. So it looked like a painting was moving.

Friday: The Fall Guy (2024)

After a serious fall Colt, a stuntman, stops doing stunt work. Then a producer, Gail, who he has worked with before reaches out to him. She wants him to come be the stunt double for Tom Ryder, an actor he's doubled before. Gail claims the director of the film (and his former crush), Jody, asked for him specifically. So Colt gets on the next flight Australia to be in the movie. Once there he realizes the situation is not what he thought it was. Jody had not asked for him and is in fact mad at him. Gail actually asked Colt to come because Tom is missing. She wants Colt to find him. So Colt has to do his best to find Tom and rekindle his romance with Jody. He doesn't know what he's got himself into. I thought this movie was good. It's a lot of fun. It is very stunt heavy. Which makes sense. It's a love letter to stunt actors. They actually broke a world record. They did a cannon roll where the car rolled eight and a half times.

Saturday: Under the Silver Lake (2018)

Sam is down on his luck living in LA. He's out of work and can't pay rent. He sees a new tenant at his apartment building complex swimming in the pool. She's a beautiful and mysterious young woman named Sarah. He talks to her and they get along. The next day she's gone and her apartment is completely empty. Sam searches LA for her. Along the way he discovers some weird conspiracies. He doesn't know what is going on, but he's determined to find her. This movie was alright. It was weird.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...
